Day 690
Tuesday 17th July 2018We're still trapped inside the loading bay area at the motorway service station and the infected are still outside desperately trying to hammer their way. Why the Hell haven't they all buggered off? The loading bay shutter has some tiny windows in it so maybe the undead case us and that's why they haven't gone. We've just gaffer taped over the holes so they can't see us. We should have thought of this yesterday. It looks like it's another night sleeping on a flat piece of card and resting my head on a large bag of rice. Janine and Naomi are reminding me at every available opportunity that we're only in this mess because of me and that if I'd have kept my voice down we wouldn't be trapped inside surrounded by infected. Janine loves lording it over me like the tw*t she is. I'm just glad I've cleaned all of the horrible Jiff off me – although I do smell a bit funny.
After Naomi told me that she'd searched Rocky and had another one of her 'chats' with him, she told me she didn't think he had anyway of communicating with ACROBAT and that they probably had no idea where he was. I told Naomi I didn't care what she or Janine I had to say, I was going to talk to Rocky whether they liked it or not. I confidently walked over to him with Naomi close behind me. I gently removed his gaffer tape, lifted his head, picked up a bottle of water and made sure he had a few sips. "How you doing?" I asked. "Well," said Rocky, gasping for breath and gulping down the sips of water, "I've had better days." I turned round and gave Naomi an angry glance. "For God's sake," I firmly said, "This is ridiculous. Actually, it's not ridiculous, it's cruel. I'm untying him." "Luke, don't you dare," snapped an aggressive Naomi. I gave her a look of dismay. "I'm serious Luke," she said, "If I have to tie you up too then I will." I gave Naomi an angry and disgusted look and then returned my attention to Rocky and gave him a sympathetic expression. "I'm sorry," I gently said. "It's OK," sad Rocky, "It's not your fault. I suppose I can understand people being suspicious of me. I'm new and I did used to work for ACROBAT." "You STILL DO work for ACROBAT," said a firm Naomi. "I don't know what I can do to get you to believe me," said Rocky. "Nothing," said Naomi, "So save your breath." "Rocky," I said, "I'm sorry to ask this but I feel like I really need to. Why didn't you tell me you used to work for ACROBAT?" Rocky looked confused. "I told you yesterday," he said, "I wanted to get to know you all a bit more first and ait for the right time." "Yeah but I thought me and you knew each other pretty well," I said, "If you'd have told me the truth I'd have believed you. You didn't need to carry on hiding the truth for this long." "I thought I needed to," said Rocky, "You might have believed me but what about Trudy and the others? No offence but after hanging around with you lot I've learned that thing don't stay secret for very long. That's why I wanted to get to know you all properly – individually and then I was going to tell you that I used to work for ACROBAT and that they abandoned me." I could sense Naomi's cynicism from behind me. Mike and Janine were now stood next to her also listening in. I looked down an adopted an uncertain expression. "You don't believe me do you?" said Rocky, "You agree with the others. You think I'm some sort of undercover spy. Look, I'm just a guy with military training who's paid to fire a gun. That's it." "You told us was from Mansfield," said Mike. "I am from Mansfield," said Rocky. "You can't believe a word he says," said Janine, "He could be from the Moon for all we know." "Shut up Meg," said TJ, "No one can live on the moon." "I'm just an average guy," said Rocky, "Actually I'm probably wore than your average guy. I'm scared of spiders for f*cks sake." "You said you didn't have a job," I gently said. "I couldn't very well tell you that I was recently employed by ACROBAT until they abandoned me, could I?" said Rocky, "Luke, I'm telling you the truth." I pressed my hands against my head. "Oh God, I don't know what to believe," I said. "Luke, we spoke about our nightmare mothers didn't we?" said Rocky, "I thought we got on. All of that was real. You don't really think it was all lies to get close to you because I'm some sort of spy do you? Luke, seriously come on." I looked over at the others with sympathy and uncertainty. That's when Rocky started crying. Tears streamed down his face as he sobbed and wept. "You're going to kill me, aren't you?" he bawled, "You've realised that I'm no use to you and that I can't tell you anything and so you're going to kill me." "No," I said, as I put my hand on Rocky's shoulder, "No one's going to kill you." "They want to kill me," wept Rocky, "I can see it in their eyes." "I won't let them hurt you," I said to Rocky. "I'm scared Luke," sobbed Rocky, "I'm really scared. I want my Mum. I really miss my Mum." "F*ck me," said Janine, "Crying for his Mum. Is he taking the p*ss? How much more of a ginger p*ssy can he get." "Ginger p*ssy?" said Mike, "That's the cat back at the power station." "Shut up Janine," I snapped. "If you're going to do kill me just make it quick and get it over and done with," said Rocky." Naomi shook her head, gave a sinister smile and started slowly clapping. "Good performance," said Naomi, "But at the end of the day that's all it is; a performance." Naomi walked off and stormed off after her. I was so angry. I grabbed hold of her arm and turned her round so she was facing me. She didn't look happy but I didn't care because I was furious. "For f*cks sake," I snapped, "This has gone on long enough. Don't you have any compassion?" "Not for him, no," said Naomi. "Life is too short to go around hating each other and fighting all the time," I said.
"Christ, becoming a Dad has turned you into a soft b*stard," said Naomi. "And finding your granddaughter has turned you into a NASTY b*stard," I said, "That's a human being you've got tied up over there." "I couldn't give a f*ck if t's Mother Teresa," said Naomi, "If someone lies to me, sneaks around behind my back and poses a threat, I'll do this every time." "He might be telling the truth!" I loudly exclaimed. "And he might not be," said Naomi, "And you know that. You've got a hint of doubt. I can tell – otherwise you'd have untied him ages ago." I shook my head at Naomi and looked at her with sadness. "I really hate who you've become," I said. "That's not my problem," said Naomi, "You need to man up and get a grip. We all know you've dome far worse than this." "What are you talking about?" I exclaimed. "Ashley and Jessica," said Naomi. My face dropped. "Remember them?" continued Naomi, "That husband and wife you shot point blank in the head. They did not nothing." "You f*cking b*tch," I snapped, "Why are you bringing that? It was ages ago and I was in a bad place." "We're in a f*cking bad place, Luke," snapped Naomi, "Just stop moaning about what's going on here when we both know things have been a lot worse than this." "Yeah," I bluntly said, "Things have been worse. Like when you killed Troy." Naomi looked angry but not as angry as I expected. "I might have shot and killed two strangers but you killed one of us. DO YOU remember that?" I the stormed off and sent the rest of the day away from Naomi with Mike giving me his usual back rubs in an attempt to get me to relax. Naomi's has become such a b*tch. I know Esther was a cow but Naomi's making her look like an angel in comparison. I'm still not sure what we're going to do with Rocky, but what with the infected still blocking both exits, it looks like we're stuck here for a while no matter what.
We've radioed through to the others and told them what's happening. We need to come up with a plan that involved getting rid of the infected so we can get back to the car with as much food and supplies as possible and drive back to the power station. I just hope we end up taking Rocky back with us, but right now I'm not sure what's going to happen.
