Day 711
Tuesday 7th August 2018I managed to speak to Kyle today. It didn't exactly go according to plan and in my view the others getting involved ruined it; however I did get a small amount of information out of him that has left me feeling very confused and even more curious than I was before about who the mysterious person in the bunker is.
I'd spent most of the day walking around the zoo looking for Kyle. I saw Roz, who gave me a dirty look and walked off; I saw Alison and Richard who quickly walked away and I also saw Thomas and Richard who avoided eye contact. Nothing like being popular.
It was starting to get dark and I was getting fed up of walking around the zoo looking for a moody adolescent when all of a sudden I saw him sat on a bench opposite the adventure playground. He looked really sad. I noticed that his skateboard was just out of his reach, propped up against one of the bench legs. I quietly approached the bench from behind and then quickly grabbed the skateboard and presented myself in front of Kyle. "Oi, what you doing?" snapped Kyle, "That's mine. Give it back." "Chill out Kevin and Perry," I said. "Kevin and who?" said Kyle. "Look," I said, "I'll give you your bl**dy skateboard back, I just want to have a little chat with you first." "I don't want to chat," said a moody Kyle, "I've been told to stay away from you. Roz'll go mad if she sees us talking." "Yeah well I'll deal with Roz if she sees us," I said. "What you gunna do?" said Kyle, "Chuck your spunk in her face?" "Kyle, let's not make this any more painful than it has to be," I said, "I don't really like you and you don't really like me." "Especially now," said Kyle. "What do you mean?" I asked. "Forget it," said Kyle, "Just give me back my skateboard." "I'll give you back your skateboard but I want to know the code for the bunker," I said. Kyle laughed and gave me a patronising look. This angered me. "You're off your head," Kyle giggled, "There's no way I'm going to give you the code." "Fine," I bluntly said, "Then I'll just keep your skateboard. Maybe I'll bust some moves of my own." "Do you even know what busting moves means?" said Kyle. "Look," I firmly said, trying to avoid Kyle's question, "Just give me the code and I'll give you your skateboard back." "F*ck you," said Kyle, "Keep it. You want the code more than I want my skateboard. Anyway, I'll get it back. I'll just tell Roz and . . ." Kyle realised he was about to say something but he stopped himself. "Roz and who?" I said, "You were going to say something just then. Was it the name of the other person you've got down in the bunker?" "Do you know what?" snapped Kyle, "Just keep the f*cking skateboard. It's not as if you know what to do with it anyway." Kyle started to walk off when all of a sudden Mike appeared in front of him with a sinister smile on his face. I wasn't expecting this. Kyle frowned with confusion and turned round to see Naomi and Tara sporting similarly menacingly looks. Kyle looked slightly scared but this quickly changed to anger. He looked over at me and frowned. "You b*stard," he snapped, "You set me up." "No," I said, joining the small gathering, "I didn't know this lot were going to turn up." I looked at Mike, Naomi and Tara with shock on my face. "What are you doing here?" I said to them, "I told you I'd try and speak to him." "No offence Luke," said Naomi, "But I wasn't convinced your style of persuasion would get us anyway, so I thought we'd step in. Hello Kyle. Now let's not make this hard on any of us. Just give us the code for the bunker." "What you going to do if I don't?" snapped Kyle, "You going to kill me?" "Hang on," I said, "No one needs to talk about killing anyone." Kyle suddenly produced a small knife with a sharp blade and started wielding it at the four of us. We all jumped back and adopted cautious expression and defensive positions. "Whoa, Kyle, what you doing?" I said. "Looks like Kyle's the only one with killing on his mind," said Naomi. "Let's all just calm down," sad Tara. "I'm calm," said Naomi, with a menacing tone in her voice, "In fact I'm very calm. How about you Mike?" "As a cucumber," said Mike. "Kyle's the one who looks the least calm," said Naomi, "Brandishing a knife. He looks scared." Kyle took a swing at Naomi with the knife in a frantic attempt to keep her away. Naomi quickly jumped back and avoided the blade. "Kyle, there's no need for the knife," I said, "Just put the knife away." "Look," said Tara, "I know we want answers, but this is out in the open. Anyone could stumble upon this." "Is this how you get your kicks?" snapped Kyle, "Ganging up on teenage boys?" "Who's ganging up on you?" said Naomi. "Yeah, you're the one with the knife kid," said Mike. "Four of us, one of you," said Naomi, "With or without a knife, do you really think you've got a chance?" Kyle looked slightly nervous and did his best to maintain the illusion of being tough and in control. "Especially now Trudy's stood right behind you," said Naomi. Kyle quickly turned round in a panic. Trudy wasn't there, but this gave Naomi just enough time to push Kyle towards Mike, who kicked the knife out of Kyle's hand, threw him to the floor and then pinned him to the ground. The rest of us gathered round and watched as Kyle aggressively and vigorously tried to wriggle free as he started loudly shouting and screaming. As Mike firmly held Kyle's wrists and kept him pinned to the ground, Naomi knelt down and placed her hand over Kyle's mouth. The poor boy looked terrified; angry but also terrified. "Now then," said Naomi, sounding intimidating, "I will remove my hand if you promise not to make any loud noises. Do you promise not to make any loud noises?" Kyle nodded his head and Naomi slowly moved her hand. "That's better," said Naomi, "A bit of peace and quiet. I've just got two questions for you. One, what's the code to the bunker and two, who's down there. I'll have the answer to question one first." "F*ck off you psycho b*tch," snapped Kyle, "I'm not telling you anything." "Don't p*ss me off little boy," said Naomi, "You don't know just how much of a psycho b*tch I can actually be. Give me the code." "I was told not to tell you," said Kyle, "They made me promise." "We don't care," said Tara, "Look you won't get into any trouble, we'll tell them we forced it out of you. Just give us the code." "There's no point," said Kyle, "I'll just go back and tell them you made me tell you, so they'll just change it." The four of us exchanged awkward and slightly embarrassed looks which Kyle noticed. "Didn't think of that, did you d*ckheads?" snapped Kyle, "Anyway, I'm not telling him anything." Kyle gave me a vicious stare. "Me?" I said, sounding confused, "What the Hell have I done?" "I don't know I just know that you're trouble." "You what?" I exclaimed, "You're calling ME trouble? You're the one that's just tried to stab us. Where's all this coming from?" "Just f*ck off," snapped Kyle. "If you're not going to give us the code, just tell us who you've got down there," said Naomi. "Well," said a sarcastic Kyle, "There's me, Alison, Kevin, Roz . . ." "Don't get smart kid," said an angry Mike, "This lot might have patience but I don't. I'll gauge out your eyes and feed them to you before you even know I've touched you." "God, you're a big tough guy aren't you," snapped Kyle. "If you want to see how tough I am just keep going kid," said Mike. "I'm fourteen and half," exclaimed Kyle, "You can't do this to me." "Listen little boy," snapped Naomi, "If you don't tell us who you've got down there we'll tell Roz and the others that you've been sneaking out." "He's been sneaking out?" said Mike. "Oh yes," said Naomi, "This guy's a proper little adventurer. He's been sneaking out for ages. Killing infected, bringing back fags. A proper naughty boy." "You can't tell them I've been going out," said Kyle, looking worried and sounding scared, "They'll go mad." "Fine," said Tara, "We'll compromise. Tell us who you've got in the bunker and we'll give you your skateboard back and not tell the others about your secrets trips out." "Sounds fair to me," said Naomi, "Come on kid. Speak." Kyle gave me a guilty and slightly awkward look. "What?" I said, "Why do you keep looking at me like that?" "Just let me go," exclaimed Kyle as he tried to wriggle free. "Kyle, just answer the question," said a firm Naomi. "I can't," exclaimed Kyle, "She made me promise not to say anything. She said it was important." "Who made you promise not to say anything?" asked Tara, "Who said it was important? Are you talking about Roz?" Kyle looked uncomfortable as a tense silence lingered. "Kyle!" Naomi loudly snapped. "I can't say," exclaimed Kyle, "Just let me go." "Kyle, we know you've been told to avoid us all," said Naomi, "But . . ." "No, it's him," snapped Kyle, appearing angry and pointing at me, "She said I had to avoid him. She said he was trouble and that I should stay out of his way." "What?" I said, sounding surprised and confused. "Kyle, tell us who!" Naomi loudly said. Kyle looked over Naomi's shoulder and raised his eyebrows. "Oh Roz, thank God," he said. We all quickly turned round but Roz wasn't there. Kyle – the little f*cker had conned us. He kneed Mike in the b*llocks, pushed Naomi ot of the way, who fell into the Tara, snatched the skateboard off me and quickly skated off. I helped Tara, Naomi and Mike to their feet. "Ouch," said Mike, "That kid should be a footballer with a kick like that. My bl**dy b*llocks are killing me. God, they hurt. Luke will you have a look at them?" "Err . . . No thanks Mike," I said. "Luke, why the Hell didn't you go running after him?" said Naomi. "Shut up," I said, "Didn't you hear what he said. This mysterious person in the bunker has told Kyle to avoid me, said that I'm trouble and that he should stay away from me. ME!? Who IS this person? What's all this got to do with me?" "I bet you're intrigued who this person is now aren't you?" said Naomi. We all walked back to the staffing area in the visitor's centre talking about the current situation and trying to figure out what Kyle was talking about.
When we returned to the staffing area we all discussed the developing situation. "So are you saying that this mysterious person in the bunker knows who you are?" said TJ. "I don't know," I said, "It's a possibility by the sound of it. Whoever this person is they don't like me very much." "Well that doesn't narrow it down," said Trudy. "Maybe Kyle was lying," said Mike. "Mike's got a point," said Naomi, "Maybe he said what he did so he could distract you and get away." "I can't believe you ganged up on him and pushed him to the floor," said Mia. "We had no choice, Mia," said Naomi, "We've got to get to the bottom of this." "Yeah but what's it all got to do with me?" I said. "Chill out Nanna," said TJ, "The little sh*t is probably lying to you." "I don't know," I said, sounding contemplative, "I saw the look on Kyle's face."
I am so confused and bamboozled by all this. I know we might have gone a bit too far with Kyle and I know there's a chance he could be lying but from the look on his face and the tone in his voice, I think there's a good chance that he's telling the truth. That means that whoever this mysterious person in the bunker below is, that they know me . . . But who the Hell could it be? My head is all over the place. What the Hell is going on around here . . . .
