Day 694
Saturday 21st July 2018
Mike and Tara have gone and we've got no idea where they are!
It all started when I noticed a rash on Leo's bum. "Ooh, you need to do something about that," said Trudy, "If you leave it, it'll just get worse." "Great," I said, rolling my eyes, "What exactly am I meant to do? I'm not exactly an expert on baby rashes am I?" "You just need some special cream," said Trudy, "That'll get rid of it." I adopted a frustrated expression. "We don't have any special cream," I bluntly said. TJ then appeared. "What we talking about?" He asked. "Special cream," said Trudy. "Oh yeah?" said TJ, "Trying to get my brother to spaff all over you again?" "I'm on about putting special cream on Leo," I bluntly said. "Ugh, Nanna that's sick," said TJ. "Oh shut up you d*ckhead," I snapped, "I'm talking about baby lotion. Leo's got a rash." Naomi then appeared. "What's up?" she asked. "Leo's got a rash and we don't have any cream," I said. "Go get some then," said Naomi, "There's a little Boots at the motorway service station. They'll probably have some there." A happy expression appeared on my face as I suddenly felt very relieved. "Brilliant," I said with a smile, "Why didn't I think of that?" "Because you've got something sh*t for brains," said TJ. The next thing, Naomi, Tara, Mike and I were getting ready to leave and heading back over to the motorway services.
When we arrived at the motorway service station the first thing we all noticed was a huge articulated lorry parked near the front entrance. "What the Hell is that?" I said. "It's called an articulated lorry," said Mike. "Yeah I know what it is," I bluntly said, "I mean, what's it doing here? It wasn't here before." "Why's it parked so close to the entrance?" asked Naomi. "That's what I'm wondering too," said Tara, "There could be others in there." "Well let's just be careful," said Naomi, "Strangers are a threat. Let's keep our wits about us." "Hang on," I said, "Yeah, keeping our wits about us is a good idea but seeing all strangers as a threat is going a bit far. They might just be trying to survive like us." "You do thing your way. I'll do things mine," said Naomi. "Well I think it would be good if we were all did the things in a unified way," said Tara. "I just want to stick my chopper in some infected," said Mike. "Put your chopper away," said Tara, "Let's just grab some supplies, look for this baby cream and avoid the infected where possible." "What about the people from the truck?" asked Naomi. "I guess we cross that bridge when we come to it," said Tara. "Well if people are in there they I don't we should go in all guns blazing," I said, "I'll go in and suss things out." "I'll come with you," said Naomi, "You might not want all guns blazing but we don't want a dithering display of insecurity." "Oi, that's a bit rude," I said. "It was meant to be," said Naomi. "Naomi's got a point," said Mike, "You can be good cop and she can be bad cop. I'll come in if you need killer cop." "We'll bear it in mind," said Naomi. "Me and Mike can check out the truck," said Tara, "It looks like there might be some food on there."
Naomi and exited the Nissan, approached the building and walked from through the main entrance. Remaining calm, and cautious, we gripped our weapons and slowly stepped over the smashed glass and discarded newspaper as we went deeper into the building. It was very quiet. Over at the other side of the building was the small Boots. Naomi looked at me, looked at Boots and then looked at me again and nodded. We walked over to the mini health and beauty shop and entered the ransacked store. Apart from a few out of date, very mouldy looking packs of sandwiches there was no food. The floor was a sea of discarded tablets, unwanted medicines, rejected toiletries and empty coke cans. We stepped over the squashed packets of Lemsip and the smashed bottles of Calpol and eventually found the baby aisle. There were quite a few creams and lotions and I had no idea which one was the right one for Leo. Naomi could see the look of confusion on my face, rolled her eyes and immediately picked up an item and showed it to me. It was a tube with 'Johnson's' written on it. All of a sudden we heard a squelching sound coming from the back of the store. Our eyes widened and the pair of us both quickly turned round and looked towards the area where the sound was coming from. Naomi slowly started walking towards the noise. I put my hand on her shoulder and quietly told her that we should just leave. Ignoring me and assertively moving her shoulder away from my hand Naomi continued walking to the back of the store. I felt a bit annoyed. I couldn't see the point of going out of our way to look for trouble when we could just head back to the car. Feeling like I couldn't leave Naomi I reluctantly followed her and when we arrived at the back of the store, we both slowly peered over the counter to find an infected man wearing blood covered jeans and a t-shirt, straddling another man, who was laid on the floor dead behind the counter. The infected man had a tattoo on his neck and he was eating the dead man's face, biting into his left cheek and ripping out chunks of flesh and pieces of tissue with his teeth. Without thinking I moved my left hand which accidentally knocked over an empty lollipop stand that was sitting on top of the counter. I cringe as I gave Naomi a guilty and sorrowful expression which she responded to with a blunt and anger expression. The infected man raised his to reveal the usual deaths pale face and contributed pupils. The lower half of his face was covered in blood and bits of the dead man's flesh and skin were wedges between his teeth. The infected looked at me and Naomi, gave a loud blood curdling screech and quickly launched himself at Naomi. Before she had a chance to do anything the infected was on top of Naomi and had her pinned to the ground as he vigorously and viciously tried to bite chunks out of her neck. As Naomi did her best to keep the infected aggressor at arm's length I desperately searched the area for something to use as a weapon as the infected continued to wrestle around on top of Naomi. "Use your knife!" yelled Naomi. I grabbed my large steak knife, stood over the rabid infected and quickly plunged the blade of my oversized kitchen utensil into the back of the infected's head. The inflected dropped down dead on top of Naomi who proceeded to push him off her and wriggled out from under his corpse. Naomi stood up and we both regained our breath. "Well what the f*ck was that?" snapped Naomi. "You what?" I bluntly said. "All that faffing about," snapped Naomi, "Looking around for something when you've got a massive f*ck off knife in your belt." "You're welcome!" I loudly and bluntly said, "Christ. A thank you wouldn't go a miss." "Thank you!?" exclaimed Naomi, "It's your bl**dy fault he ended up rolling around on top of me in the first place. God, do you ever think? Do you ever actually use that brain of yours?" "It was an accident," I snapped, "I didn't mean to knock the stand over. It's not like I did it on purpose. I've just saved your life for crying out loud." "Thanks to me telling you what to do," snapped Naomi, "Come on let's get out of here." I was proper p*ssed off with Naomi at this point. I didn't tweet appreciate her talking to me like sh*t and treating me like some stupid child. I also wasn't happy that I got zero acknowledgement for saving her life.
