Day 725
Tuesday 21st August 2018It's been a really weird day, but I did eventually manage to speak to Naomi about our kiss.
I was walking through the zoo to check the metal sheeting that was blocking the hole right at the back of the zoo was still in place, when I bumped into Naomi. We both saw that we were approaching each other and seemed slightly uncomfortable. However, we were in each other's eye line so there was no way we could avoid each other; not without it appearing rude. We tentatively walked up to each other and exchanged awkward smiles. "Hiya," said Naomi. "You alright?" I asked. "Hmm," said Naomi. "Been avoiding me?" I asked. "No," Naomi, quickly replied, "I mean . . . Well . . . You know . . . It's not like . . . Erm . . . Look, what I mean is . . . Well, I . . ." "Naomi," I calmly said, "It's OK. I think we've been avoiding each other." "Well you've had a lot going on," said Naomi, coyly, "What with Caroline and the big revelation that you've got another secret son. You don't need me getting in your way." "Look you don't have to be embarrassed," I said, "I know it's a bit weird, but it doesn't have to be. I could have done with your support over the last few days, what with all the stuff's that's been going on." "Yeah I know, I'm sorry," said Naomi, "I guess I just freaked out a bit." "It was just a kiss," I casually said, "Emotions were running high. We've done it before, remember? It doesn't have to mean anything." "Doesn't it?" said Naomi. I frowned with curiosity and took a step forward. "What do you mean?" I asked. "Oh, it doesn't matter, just forget it," said Naomi. "No, tell me, what do you mean," I asked. "Oh Luke, seriously," said Naomi, "Just forget I said anything." "What are you trying to say?" I asked, "Are you saying that, that kiss meant something?" "Well didn't it?" said Naomi. "Well I didn't think it meant anything to you," I said, "I mean I got a sense that you liked it, but I didn't think that MEANT anything. What exactly are you saying?" "Oh, I don't know what I'm saying," said a frustrated Naomi, "I'm really confused. Can we just pretend that kiss and this conversation never happened?" "No, we can't," I exclaimed, "We need to talk about it." Naomi gave me a sympathetic and slightly embarrassed look, told me she was sorry and walked off.
I saw Mike earlier and we both exchanged tense and rather awkward looks. To be honest my thoughts have gone from being frustrated about Mike's behaviour to feeling confused and I guess slightly excited at Naomi's comments. What's going on in her head? What is she thinking? Does she have feelings for me? Does she want us to get together? Oh I just don't know but it sounds like she doesn't really know either. Whether she likes it or not we need to talk more about this and it's something I plan to do.
Kyle has spent more time with Leo which has been nice but he hasn't really spoken much to me. I think he's more bothered about spending time with his baby brother than his Dad. Thankfully I haven't seen much of Caroline today so my eardrums are intact.
What made the day weird was that I haven't seen Thomas and when I asked the others if they'd seen him, they hadn't. "I don't think he's been feeling well," said Alison, "'Wants to be on his own poor love." "Well he was really upset yesterday," I said. "What was he upset about?" asked Alison. "Well he said something about one of the elephants being ill," I said. Alison said he gets upset when the animals get ill but then Kevin said he was with the elephants earlier on and they seemed fine. Oh, do you know what? I don't bl**dy care what Thomas is playing at. I've got enough on my mind what with Mike's erratic behaviour, getting to know my son, avoiding Caroline and figuring out what's going on with me and Naomi.
I can't help but feel like something's coming though. I have no idea what, but I'm feeling really tense and I don't know why. . .
