Zöe :

Damien lunged at me, dagger ready. His eyes were glittering with excited light, the way they always do in a fight. Even a training fight like this.

I laughed and slipped under his arm, swiping riptide under his legs. Making him stumble and fall to the ground. He was up instantly, already back on the attack.

We'd been going on like this for about an hour. With no clear winner.

Damien and me are best friends, we have been since the first day he came to this camp.

But that also means we know each so well, that we can anticipate the other's move before they've even took it.

It makes the fight a lot harder. “You should give up Jackson.” He taunted me, his usual cocky grin. “We both know I'm gonna win this.”

He thrust his dagger out and I dodged the attack, dropping to the ground and rolling in between his legs. Coming up at the other side, my sword to his throat. “That's never gonna happen, Grace.” I shot back, keeping my sword at his throat.

I heard a laugh, but didn't tear my eyes away from my best friend's face. His cocky grin had disappeared now, due to the sword at his neck. “She fights like Percy.” I heard a voice say. I turned to see Damien's dad; Jason, standing a few feet away. Distracted from the fight, I scowled at him. And he laughed.

The next thing I knew I was lying on the floor, Damien on top of me, his face inches from mine. His grin cockier than ever.

He leaned in, so that his lips brushed my ear, “Eyes on the fight at all times, Jackson. I'd expect better from the best fighter in camp.”

My scowl grew,

And so did his smirk.

Boys.
