Zöe:

“You know,” I said quietly, between sips of fruit smoothie. “I didn't think that friends went on ‘dates’, is this what you do with all your friends?”

Damien grinned, his signature dazzling grin. “This is a ‘friendly’ date, and no, I don't do this with all my friends.” He replied smoothly. “You're a very special friend.” I was about to reply when I was cut off by a shrill ringing sound.

Damien slipped his phone out of his pocket, and sighed. “It's my mom, I better get this.”

I felt my eyes widen. “We're already risking it, spending this much time in the mortal world,” I hissed. “By answering that you'll practically be sending up a flare...” He put a finger to my lips to silent me.

“I'll make it quick.” And with that he was out the booth, slipping outside to take the call.

“Bit rude isn't it?” Said a rough voice. “Leaving in the middle of a date to make a call.” I turned to see a boy sliding into the space next to me in the booth. He was a complete stranger, and he was sitting a little too close.

I bit back a rude response, slid further away and said, “It's not really a date.”

His eyebrows shot up. “I see...” He grinned, smoothly placing an arm across my shoulders.

I rolled my eyes at him. He was cute, incredibly cute. Big chestnut eyes and brown hair that was a little too long. His smile was slightly crooked, almost a smirk. And he was leaning in so close that I could smell his minty breath.

But he was cocky, and not in the endearing way like Damien. “Get lost, mortal.” I sighed. And I realised my mistake far too late.
