Zöe:
Danny's arm lay casually around me as we curled up on the sofa. Laughing and talking as the next episode of 'Friends' started up.
And that's when my phone started ringing.
I frowned and picked it up, flipping it open as a picture of Damien flashed up on my screen.
Danny was peering over me curiously as I pressed down on the green button and held the phone to my ear.
Damien's voice was urgent and scared. “Zo,” he gasped, his voice cracking down the line.
“Damien? What is it?” I said, already feeling panicked without knowing what was going on.
Damien was catching his breath as Danny leaned into me ear.
“What's going on?” He whispered.
I cursed softly, glaring at him. There was no chance that Damien didn't hear that.
Damien's voice hitched “Who's that?”
I decided not to lie. “Danny.” I replied, as evenly as I could.
“Danny... I thought...” His voice was tight and annoyed, but the anger quickly faded away, as if he suddenly remembered why he was ringing me in the first place.
“Zo, you need to get back to camp. Like now.” He said urgently.
“Why, what's going on Damien, you're scaring me.” I hissed through the phone, glancing up at Danny who was looking at me with anxiety clear in his eyes.
“It's Charlie.” He croaked, his voice barely a whisper.
My heart flipped over in my chest and my breath caught on the way in. “What about Charlie?” I whispered, imaging the face of my nephew- grinning and bright, eager and excited.
He let out a long sigh. “Zöe. He's gone.”
