Chapter 51

Zöe:

After Leo and Nico did that awkward guy-hug thing, and Nico explained to Leo that he was living in Italy with his partner Thalia and their sons Will and Michael, and he'd shadow travelled here as soon as he got the message- we all trooped into the manor house.

Chiron was ecstatic to see the two men, and when Jason and Piper came in- it was big hugs and exclaims of joy all around- while me and Damien stood on the sidelines, watching it all take place.

It was amazing how close they all were, and how happy they were to see each other. Piper had tears in her eyes, and Leo couldn't stop smiling. Though all the while the main two thoughts that were going through my head were: A) how gutted Percy and Annabeth would be to miss their old friends, and B) the more time we wasted on reunions, the less time we were spending on looking for Charlie.

And then Estelle walked in, holding various books against her chest and clutching a small object in her hand that I couldn't quite make out.

She was a tall, curvy girl, with long blonde hair that tumbled down her back and reached her waist. Her hair was scraped back with a headband and the usual care and gracefulness that she normally held in her posture was gone. She looked stressed and worried.

Chiron drew away from a conversation with Leo, and approached Estelle as she walked in. She glanced around nervously at the adults in the room, before her eyes landed on me. And then something else came into her expression. Pity. And sadness. “I've done the spell.” Estelle announced weakly, she opened her fist- revealing a small figurine of a man with a trident by his side. I felt my heart drop. It was Charlie's figurine of Poseidon, and for some reason it made my gut wrench with fear and dread. As if my heart already knew what Estelle was about to say. “It worked better than I thought it would. We know where he is, the Athena kids are already making maps to plan the route to get there. But somehow, we also found out what's happening to him. Some followers of Gaia, are still loyal, after all these years. And they still want revenge, against Percy Jackson. They've kidnapped Charlie; and they're torturing him.”
