Percy:

“Oh gods this hurts.” Annabeth muttered, as I half-carried, half-pulled her towards the bed.

Her face was strained and pale, droplets of sweat beaded her forehead, and she squeezed tightly on my hand- gripping it like it was the only thing keeping her anchored to the earth.

With every step another small moan escaped from her mouth, and she stumbled some more. I could tell she was trying to dilute it. Not wanting attention or pity. Typical Annabeth style.

When we finally reached the bed, she fell back into it, letting out a long, strained sigh. “There, there, wise girl.” I whispered as I climbed in after her.

She rolled over to face me, and I reached my hand out, placing my palm over her swollen stomach. Over the babies.

The bump was huge, even though it wasn't anywhere near the due date yet. When an older child of Apollo had came over to our house yesterday to perform a scan, she'd informed us that the babies were growing at a rapid pace, and that they would probably come very early.

I reached my other arm out, and wrapped it around Annabeth. I pulled her closer, so that she could rest her head in the nape of my neck. Her breath tickled and warmed my skin, and her soft blonde curls spread out over my chest.

She took in a few shallow breaths. “We haven't visited the kids yet, they'll be missing us so much.” She gasped, still wheezing from the pain. “Zöe will be exhausted from looking after them. I hope they're all okay.”

I rubbed my hand therapeutically up and down her back. “My sister is a big girl, sweetie. She can look after them, I'm confident of it. And it will only upset the kids to see you looking so ill and in so much pain.”

She raised her stormy grey eyes to mine. “I'm not in that much pain.” I laughed softly. “Yeah, looks like it.”

She glared playfully at me. “Percy-”

I gently removed my hand from her stomach, and held my finger up to her lips. “Annabeth, please. Sleep. Rest. You need it. Just close your eyes.” I gave her a pleading look. “For me?”

She rolled her eyes but smiled. “Fine, for you, Seaweed Brain.” She closed her eyes and went limp, letting her exhaustion take over. And I joined her.
