Zöe:

Damien looked at me for long moment, not saying anything, just staring at me. When he spoke again, I expected him to sound angry, or at least frustrated- but he didn't. He simply nodded, and when he spoke- his voice was perfectly even.

“Fine. If you insist on going on this ridiculous task, which is basically just a death wish, then fine.” He paused, and stepped forward to take my hand. “But I'm going with you.”

I let myself relax, “Great.” I grinned. “I was gonna ask you to come with me anyways, that was the plan.”

A small smile tugged at Damien's mouth. “You were?” He said, trying, but failing to sound casual. He'd given up on hiding the grin, and it was spread across his face.

I nodded. “Damien. When I said I needed you, I wasn't just saying it. All my life I've refused to accept that I needed anyone, I thought it made me weak. But now I know that needing someone doesn't make you vulnerable, it makes you human. And everyone has that one person that they need more than anyone else; the one person that they love more than anyone else in the world. And for me, that person is you.” His eyes shone with gratitude and affection as he stepped forward and wrapped an arm around my waist, he said nothing- only pulled me towards him. I was distantly aware of Bianca just behind us. But when I glanced back, I saw her facing away, leaning against the railing and staring out at the campers milling around.

I turned my attention back to Damien, and let myself get lost in him. His hands cupped my face, and his lips brushed against mine. I leaned upwards and into the kiss, making Damien gasp in surprise. And we would've kept going if it weren't for.... “Excuse me?” I felt a tap on my shoulder, and reluctantly pulled away from the kiss, turning to see a man standing behind us. He was about Percy's age- maybe a tiny bit younger- with curly brown hair and a tanned face. He was tall and muscular, dressed in jeans and an army jacket.

I detangled myself from Damien, and turned to address him.

He was smirking from ear to ear. “Sorry to interrupt, but I was asked to come here and told it was urgent... I'm Leo; by the way. Leo Valdez.”
