Katie:

“According to the map, we aren't far away from Charlie. Should get there within in a day of walking, if we go at a decent pace.” Brooke announced, looking pleased.

I looked up at my sister standing a few feet away, she held the map out in front of her, and looked at it with a deep concentration. Danny hovered over her shoulder, peering at it. “How d'you work that out?” He asked her. “Aren't you like nine?”

I rolled my eyes at him. “She's a child genius.”

Brooke nodded. “We both are.”

I pointed my finger at him. “And we're ten, actually.” He shrugged and winked at me before turning to Zöe and Damien. Zöe was still pale and sickly, and in my clothes that were a little too big for her, she looked like a young child. Not someone who was five years older than me and Brooke.

And she certainly didn't look like someone with so much power, strength and bravery as she had. “Should we set off now?” Danny asked them.

Zöe shook her head. “Don't get me wrong, I want to. I don't want to wait a minute longer.” She pointed to the sky. “But it's getting late and dark. We're all tired and I'm certainly not at full strength. We'll have to set up camp for the night.”

I yawned, already laying out my sleeping mat. “I couldn't agree more.”

She grinned. “No wonder you're tired,” she said to me and Brooke. “It's past your bed time isn't it?”

I laughed and stuck my tongue out at her. “Watch it, Jackson. I may be younger but I'm a lot bigger.”

Damien sniggered, and she pulled a face at him, punching him in the gut. He wheezed and then regained himself, grabbing her waist and lifting her up. She protested half-heatedly, but looked more than pleased as he got down on the ground and pulled his girlfriend down with him. As they cuddled up for the night.

I grinned. “Nighty night, love birds.”
