Zöe:

I stood at the bank of the river and stared out at the dirty, grey water. ‘This is nothing’ I told myself ‘Percy could do this, so I can too.’

I scolded myself for comparing my own skills to Percy's, but I couldn't help it.

Damien and Danny hovered at my shoulders, one on either side. “Can you give me some space?” I snapped, tense with the pressure.

They both stepped backwards, but then they both put a hand on my shoulder, before glaring at each other.

Boys.

I closed my eyes and tried to concentrate on the gentle lapping of the water against the stones. I thought of a huge wave, powerful and strong.

My gut tugged so hard I nearly gagged, but I didn't restrain. My stomach clenched, and I had to grit my teeth. Then I felt another pull, and I opened my eyes to see the water was following my command, swirling up before forming a large wave- with a platform large enough for us all to stand on.

Cautiously, I stepped forwards onto the wave, the water shimmered under my feet. I leant down and helped the other two up. Danny grabbed my hand at the same time as Damien did. But then Damien scowled, and squeezed my hand before wrapping an arm around me and pulling me tightly to his side. Closing the space between us, and widening the space between me and Danny.

I rolled my eyes, but couldn't keep the smile of my face.

I closed my eyes again and imagined the wave surging forwards, pushing us through the river, and the water did as I wanted, within seconds we were surfing through the water, smoothly gliding through the river.

Danny's grip didn't fail on my hand at all, and Damien kept pulling me tighter to his side.

I bowed my head and grinned.

It's nice to be admired.
