Zöe:

The river was cold and harsh and strong.

Stronger than I had anticipated.

The initial power of it took me by surprise, and I found myself being encased by icy tendrils which tugged and yanked at me- pulling me down the stream.

That was all it took to snap me back into reality.

I pushed against the current with all my will. I didn't bother to keep myself dry, it would take too much energy; and I had bigger things to worry about than ruining my jeans.

So instead I simply closed my eyes and took a deep breath. I clenched my gut and bit down hard on my lip. Willing the river to respond to my will. I imagined myself as an invincible force, the master of the current. I imagined the water as my servant, forced to obey me.

It took one final surge of energy, and then the air pressure changed; making my ears pop. And my gut relaxed, as the water in close range rose into a mini hurricane, circling my ankles, up to my thighs.

Power surged through me, and I willed myself to move forward. I spiralled and spun through the river. Danny was in my sight, he was only metres from the edge.

The water seemed to fight against me, trying to hold me back. And that was unusual, but I fought the current, and I rushed forwards.

Danny was practically at the edge, he had seconds left, at the most.

I pushed harder. My energy was draining quickly, I felt weak.

But I kept pushing, kept surging forwards.

Danny was going to go over, he wasn't even fighting it, the currents were taking him as prisoner, and he was letting them.

I let out a guttural scream, it tore through me; and I dived towards Danny, abandoning my whirlwind of water.

I reached him, and grabbed his arm. Just as he fell over the cliff's flowing edge, taking me with him.
