Damien:

“Valdez... Like, Leo Valdez?” I stammered in disbelief, still staring in awe at the twins that had appeared from nowhere.

The twin that hadn't spoken yet, Brooke, nodded and grinned like an excited little kid, which I suppose she kind of was. “Yeah! You know our dad?”

I nodded. “I've met him, but only once. He's my dad's best friend. He...” I faded off, and swallowed. “Have you heard from him? Your dad, I mean.”

The grins slipped off their faces, making me instantly feel bad. “No.” Katie frowned. “Nothing since he left...” She paused. “Wait, did you say that your dad is our dad's best friend?” I nodded.

Brooke laughed lightly. “Jason Grace is your dad? You're the famous Damien Grace?” I nodded again, dumfounded.

While Danny snorted and muttered “famous?” under his breath. I turned, clicked my tongue and smirked, before looking back towards the twins.

Brooke's eyes widened, and her smile reappeared. “So... that sleeping girl must be Zöe Jackson. Percy Jackson's little sister... Of course! She looks just like him.” She grinned, then, and at my confused look, added. “I've seen pictures.” Katie nodded. “She's not looking too heroic right now though. What happened?”

Danny then, spoke out for the first time. “It's a long story.” He murmured shamefully.

Katie shrugged. “Well, hand her over, me and Brooke will take her to the stream. There's one just down there. We'll clean her up, and the water should give her strength. Then once she's woken up, SHE can tell us the 'long story'”

“And,” Brooke added, “I've got some spare clothes with me.” She paused, and looked at Zöe, sizing her up. “They might be a bit big for her. She's very small.” She shrugged. “But they'll be better than them old rags that she's dressed in.” I stared open-mouthed. I couldn't believe it. They'd appeared out of nowhere, having never met us in our life. And without even a moment of hesitation they were helping us out, as if we were old friends.

“We won't be long.” Brooke promised, as she gently took Zöe from my arms. Lifting her with ease.

I nodded. And watched silently as they disappeared into the woods, down a muddy sloping hill towards the stream below.
