Zöe:

I forced myself to walk forwards until I was between the two boys, I reached out and took Damien's hand- pulling him towards me and giving it a small squeeze before letting go. “It might be nothing.” I said quietly, though even I didn't believe that.

Damien ran a hand through his hair, and leaned over me, placing his mouth next to my ear. “Zöe, you know what dreams mean in our world. When a demigod has-”

“But he's not a demigod Damien. He's a mortal, this might mean NOTHING.” I hissed back, my eyes darting to Danny- who stood only a foot away- his face a mask of confusion and frustration.

“Will you guys stop talking about me like I'm not even here?” He complained, but his outburst was feeble, and his hands were shaking. Both signs that he was scared. Really scared.

I looked over at Danny. And tried to force my voice to stay level and calm. “Okay you're right. Sorry. But this could be serious Danny, I need you to tell me everything that happened in the 'dreams' that you said you've had.”

Danny nodded and swallowed. “Okay, so some of its kinda weird... But then again that's usual for you, so forget I said that. Oh gods. Okay, so one dream was in these, like... Caves. It was me, and you, and Damien and Selena. And Charlie was there, all beaten up and thin and crying. He was tied up, and we were trying to save him, but then all these people with guns- and all these... Monsters came out after us, and then there was fighting and-” he shook his head, his face grave. “I don't want to talk about the rest of it. I'm sorry.” He shook his head again. “There were other dreams too. Dreams of blood and bones and death and devastation. Dreams of more monsters, some so horrific that I don't think I'll ever forget them...” I reached up and put my hand on his shoulder- forcing myself to think straight, and then a thought came to me.

“Danny. You said 'gods'. That isn't something that mortals say.”

He frowned. “Yeah. I guess I don't say it very often, but... My mom says it, all the time.”

I sucked in a small breath. “Danny, what was your mom's name, before she got married and had you?”

Danny looked confused. “Rachel, Rachel Dare.”
