Damien:

My brain seemed to freeze and so did my body. I almost hadn't even registered the situation at hand until Zöe was right beside me, riptide in her grasp.

I finally unfroze, and drew out my dagger. But the empousa was staring at Zöe with a loathing hatred. “That sword,” she hissed, her voice silky and smooth. “I've seen that sword, I've felt the wrath of that sword.” She snarled, her eyes trained in on Zöe's.

Zöe met her glare with her own. “It belonged to my brother. Percy Jackson, you may have come across him.” The demon made a shrieking sound of anger, baring her fangs.

“What IS that thing?” Yelped the boy in the booth. I'd almost forgotten he was even there.

Zöe turned to him, and despite her fear, a mild interest sparkled in her eyes. “You can SEE it?” She asked him.

“Of course I can see it! I'm not blind!” He replied, shaking with fear.

“Get under the table.” I said, without even looking at him. He opened his mouth like he wanted to protest, but then the empousa hissed and he was under there in a second.

The empousa darted forwards, but Zöe was there, and with a slice of riptide the monster was no longer attacking us, and was instead a heap of golden dust on the floor.

I was about to let out a sigh of relief when my ears were filled with a furious hissing sound, like glass scraping against glass. There was a clang of metal and a heavy, revolting smell like wet horse.

And then we were surrounded, by nearly thirty hissing snarling Empousi.
