Damien:

I propped myself up on my arms, hovering over Zöe. I kept my feet dug into the ground; so that the chains couldn't pull as any further.

Zöe reached up with trembling hands, and put one on either side of my face. She looked at me with those big, sea-green eyes. They were sparkling, as usual. But right now, it was because of the glistening tears that threatened to spill. “There's still time.” She whispered. “You can still make it.” She glanced towards the moving door. “Please, go. Get out of here. It's not too late.”

I looked down at her, and slowly shook my head. “No. Would you leave me?” I said, my voice shaking.

“Damien, please...”

I cut her off. “Answer the question.” I urged.

“No.” She said without hesitation. “No, I wouldn't leave you.”

I dropped down and slipped my arms around her neck; so that I was lying completely on top of her. “Then how,” I whispered into the crook of her neck. “Can you ask me to do the same?” She put her skinny arms around me and held me tightly. “Because, I love you more than anything else in the word. And I need you to live.” I propped myself up again, and looked down at her. “Zöe Christina Jackson. I love you. I always have loved you. Since the day I met you. Since the day you marched up to me on my first day at camp and took me by the hand, a big grin on your face, and said 'Hey, you're gonna be my best friend. Got that?'. From there on we were inseparable. You made me what I am. You changed my life. And I wouldn't trade a million more days, for the ones that I spent with you by my side. We're in this together, remember? We're a team.” Tears dripped down the side of her face, they also dripped down my own. And in those few seconds, I saw her, the little skinny girl with the long black hair and the big green eyes. The girl who had took me by the hand and showed me the world. My best friend. The love of my life. Zöe Jackson.

“Then kiss me.” She whispered. And I did.

I brought my lips down onto hers, just as a screeching sound filled the air, and the cave walls caved in, the ground underneath us exploding. I hung tightly onto Zöe, screaming.

And then everything went black.
