Zöe:

I walked down the dirty pathway next to Selena, the boys just behind. Travelling through the wilderness just as the map directed us.

The leaves crunched under my feet with a therapeutic crackling, and the sun hung low in the sky- warming my face.

All of that, added with Selena's ‘sunshiny’ mood, really helped to brighten the day. “So,” my friend smiled. “How are things with you and Damien?”

I looked up at her and raised my eyebrows, trying not to smirk. “You're being nice. And polite.”

She blinked. “And? I'm just a delightful person.”

I scoffed, not even bothering to hide my smirk this time. “You're being nice,” I repeated. “Because you're in loooooveeee.”

She blushed, which was VERY un-Selena-like. “I wouldn't exactly go that far. But yeah, I like Danny.”

I grinned at her, nudging my shoulder against hers. “That's sweet. And good. Because he totally likes you too.”

She frowned a little. “Are we... Like... ‘Talking like girls’?” I couldn't help but laugh.

“I guess we are.” I shrugged.

We both kept laughing until we approached a dark cave that loomed above us. The walls were coated in a thin covering of grass and weeds. And water dripped from the arch of the entrance ceiling.

Selena dropped down into a crouch, pulling me down with her- urging the boys to do the same as they approached us.

They did, and I could sense Damien right next to me as he scrambled across the floor. I reached out and squeezed his arm- but didn't dare tear my eyes away from the entrance of the cave.

Because what had caught our attention in the first place wasn't the cave itself. But the low voices and scuttling that echoed from inside.
