Tough guy Colby grinned at me and raised 3 fingers.

"I'll try to be less of a dick. Scouts honor."

I snorted. "There's no way that you were ever a Boy Scout. I won't be treated like shit just because you get in a bad mood."

I had to put that out there. Regardless of what I thought I might be feeling for him, I wouldn't let myself get stuck in some sick twisted relationship.

"I was actually." He replied, bringing his hand down.

I was shocked. "No, you weren't! Actually?"

He nodded, acting a little embarrassed. "Yeah, for a long time. Almost made Eagle Scout."

I purse my lips, imagining a young Colby in a Boy Scout uniform. Damned if that didn't make my weak ass heart do flip flops.

 "Huh...I never would have guessed."

"Yeah...the only one who knows is Sam. So, if you tell anyone, I'd have to kill you." He said this so seriously, I did a double take.

His eyes were hard, glinting just a little. I would have taken him seriously, if the corner of his lips didn't quirk up just a little at my inspection.

"You know I almost believed you."

He gave me a soft, slow grin that I think may have just turned me into a puddle on the floor. Which reminds me, I still have to clean up the broken vase.

"Chloe, I would never intentionally hurt you." He let out a long breath. "You know that's why you should stay away from me though. I'm really no good for you and being around me could be very hazardous to your health." The smile had disappeared, and his voice turned rough and deeper than usual.

He took a step towards me, closing the distance between us, until our bodies were almost touching. "You shouldn't want to be friends with me. I should stay away from you but there's something about you...I just can't." His hand trailed down the side of my face again, down my neck till he rested his hand against my collar bone.

My skin was on fire, tingling along the trail that he left.

"I" I tried to speak but the words got stuck in my throat.

I took a deep breath, trying to regain control. "I think I'll take my chances. I like danger and my life has always been hard. Besides," I decided to be a little brave and placed my hand on his chest. "You don't seem that tough or scary to me."

His nostrils flared as he sucked in a breath at my words. The silver ring around his eyes pulsed, as the black of his pupils grew. I felt the tension in the room thicken, and my core started to tingle. Damn, he could work me without even doing anything!

I was a fool for thinking that I could get him out of my system. If he decided he never wanted to see me again, he would still be in me, in my veins, my memory. I would never be able to completely let him go.

I prayed at that moment, that he would never decide to be done with me. Even if we were only friends.

A customer walked in then, breaking the moment.

"Fuck," I heard Colby mutter under his breath.

Felt that.

I stepped away from him just as he did the same.

The elderly lady looked Colby up and down, then smiled at me understandingly. I guess he did it to all ages. Not surprised.

He walked back around to the other side of the counter, while I took her order and made her drink. When I handed the cup to her, she motioned for me to lean in. I did, a little confused.

"He's a handsome one. Little scary but that makes them more fun. Let him know who's boss honey." She patted my hand, took her coffee, waved to Colby, who waved back with a small knowing smile on his face, then she walked out the door.

What the fuck? There was no way that anyone would be able to show Colby who was boss besides himself. He might be acting all soft right now, which was freaking me out a little, I might add, but he would be back to his normal jack ass self soon. I was sure of it.

I grabbed the broom to sweep up the broken glass, before I mopped up the mess. Colby was sitting at a table next to the mess.

"I can help." He offered.

I shook my head. "No, I got it. I get paid for this, remember?" I bent down to pick up the bigger pieces before I swept. "So, we do need to talk about some of the things that have happened between us..sort of clear the air, ya know?" I didn't look at his face, as I spoke.

Knew that I wouldn't be able to keep a clear head.

"Like me almost raping you?" He said quietly, making my head snap up.

 "Ouch, shit! Fucking hell!"

I saw Colby's eyes widen, and his nostrils flare again, before I looked down at my hand and saw it streaming with blood.

"Fuck, fuck, fuuuucck." I had sliced my finger open on a piece of the jagged glass.

There was actual blood everywhere, coating my hand so that I couldn't even see how bad it was. I just knew that it was stinging like crazy.

"Are you okay?" Hearing his voice, I glanced back to where Colby was sitting but he wasn't there.

He was now about 5 feet away from me, his eyes almost black, his jaw clenched. He looked pissed again. I sighed.

"What did I do this time to make you mad? I swear I didn't try to"

He shook his head at me, and flexed his fists. "Nothing. I just...don't like blood."

I made a face. "Seriously? I thought you were a bad ass. Can you get me the first aid kit at least? You apparently make me clumsy."

He was walking behind the counter again, but I heard him. "You were clumsy before you met me."

Okay, he was right but still. He brought me the box, stopping two feet away and holding it out at arms length. Was his blood aversion that bad? I never would have guessed.
