What was the true meaning of loss?

It's a question you always thought about, yet you never found the answer. You, among everyone else had felt that loss before, but it came in many ways. Most people said losing a pet, or a loved one, that meant meant true loss. You were different though, the things you lost were never technically physical. You lost a childhood, was that the meaning of loss?

--

You gripped your mothers hand tightly as you ran through the thick forest. You were luckily small enough to miss the whipping branches that hit both your mom and dads faces, it never phased them though, the had a job, a job to protect you. You didn't know what you were running from, but you knew it must be bad if even your mother and father, the infamous Black Widow and Winter Soldier were fearing for life. Gunshouts sound throughout the forest and your brain tells you to scream, a move which you undoubtedly regretted soon after. The agents chasing after your small family find you much easier due to your screech. They rush towards you and your parents, who attempt to fight them off, but their attempts remain futile. Natasha tries to pick you up, but the agents rip you from her arms.

"Mama! Help me please!" You cry. Agents hold both renegades back and force them to watch in heartbreak as their child is dragged away from them kicking and screaming. You try all your best defences, and that basically means you bit them and used all the words Bucky used when he got stressed. They drag you out of the forest and into a black van, tinted windows and all. You get put in the back and strapped down into a car seat, still trying to kick and punch your way out of the situation. When the car starts, you realise that was it. You lost your parents. On the way to the building, you resort to bad mouthing your captors. It's not like your parents where around to here you anymore. When you arrive at the building, it looks like a school. The sign at the front reads

The Red Room Academy For Girls

That was how you lost your childhood, but you'd still lost other, more crucial things. Maybe it was the loss of your free will.

--

The sun bursts into your room as the curtains are thrown open, causing you to awake with a groan. You know what today is, it's your examination day. To cut a long story short, the Red Room picks the next Black Widow. You were told to tell no one she was your mother, you obeyed. You found yourself doing that a lot more often these days, you didn't like the feeling.

"Get up, Y/n. It is time for your examination" Madame Zoleski instructs you. You sigh as you stand up, walking over to the small dresser in the corner of your room. Madame Zoleski leaves the room to let you change. You change into your outfit and tie your hair back into a slick bun, grabbing your pointe shoes on the way out. The rest of your group lines up, getting prepared for the intense atmosphere of the Red Room dance room. Your group gets called in and you take a deep breath, you can do this, You're Y/n Barnes. The music starts and your group  moves beautifully in sync with each other.

The music builds to a crescendo and you all pull your last move. You finish with your arms out and legs apart. Your hair remains perfectly in place, unlike other girls. The examiner walks along the line of girls, she stops at you and smiles.
