--Part two of 'Bad Decisions, That's Alright--

--

Steve sits by the weapons crates, his knee bouncing nervously. He's had no communication between you, Bucky or Monica in the past two days. Of course, he isn't worried about you, no he probably never was, but Bucky is understandable, they've been best friends for decades, but Monica you never understood, she was evil, how couldn't he see it? You'd guessed he'd never loved you, or simply thought that Monica's better. He looks up to Sam as he stands in front of him expectantly. He doesn't realize how longs he's been in his thoughts, not noticing the drastic change of scenery. Instead of the endless blue sea, it's now replaced with the cold exterior of a HYDRA base with the door cracked open with what appeared to be a bomb of some sort, he presumes it to be Buckys.

"Come on, let's go save their asses," Sam says. Steve sighs as he stands up.

"We see any agents, we take them down." Steve orders. Sam nods and follows Steve as he walks down the landing ramp of the quinjet. The pair are on high alert as they walk through the dark and damp halls of the base, the eerie quiet unsettling both men. They hear rustling coming from one of the rooms that holds the wiping machine and they nod to each other, heading to the door cautiously and quietly. Sam nods to Steve and Steve busts the door open using his shield. His breath catches in his throat when he sees you, dead in his best friend's arms. His blood runs cold and he feels all the color drain from his face. You can't be, you can't be dead. Steve finds his legs moving towards you and Bucky. He looks at Bucky, who glares at him angrily.

"B-Bu-what happened?" He asks, not able to get his words out.

"You. You happened" Bucky says, venom lacing his voice. "You know, she was right," Bucky says. "She was right about her" He continues, referring to the other lifeless body in the room. "She was. Emphasis on was. She died because you didn't love her enough to believe her, and what you said to her put it in her head. She died thinking her father hated her." Bucky says. Steve feels his heart breaking. He knows Bucky's right, and he was all along. Thinking back on it, he failed you. He was supposed to protect you from the things he said to you, not to be the one who says them. His hands tremble as he takes you from Bucky's arms. He holds back a sob when he looks down at your lifeless, pale body.

"I-I'm so sorry darling," He says, stuttering over his words. Bucky shakes his head and stands up, walking straight past Steve. He turns around when he reaches the door frame.

"Oh, and one more thing. She wanted you to know she was sorry, even though she had nothing to be sorry for" Bucky adds on, leaving the building and getting on the quinjet. Sam looks at Steve with a look of disappointment on his face"I have to say, Steve, I thought you to be better. She was your daughter, and you let her down" Sam says, sounding disappointed in his friend. Sam leaves the room in pursuit of Bucky, leaving Steve in the room, your cold limp body heavy in his hands. Steve doesn't even look over at the other body, nevermind picking it up. He leaves the room and walks out of the base, you still in his arms as he walks on to the quinjet. The air's thick, almost too thick for Steve to breathe in. As much as he doesn't want to admit it, Steve knows your death is his fault and the guilt's eating him more and more. How can he tell everyone?

--

The jet lands in the compound and everything seems to slow down for Steve. Bucky and Sam leave the jet without saying anything, not even sparing him a glance. The rest of the team stands by the jet, awaiting the arrival of you, Bucky and Monica. But when only Bucky walks off, their stomachs sink a little. It takes all of Steve's willpower to stand up from that bench and walk down that ramp and present your dead body to the team, wait correction, your family. When Steve walks down the ramp, he hears the gasps from the team. He hears the sobs of Natasha, who you considered a mom, but you'd never tell anyone else besides her. It all gets too much and Steve breaks down in tears, not caring who sees him. Everyone looks over to Sam and Bucky, who watch as Steve breaks down.

"What's with those two?" Tony asks. Sam looks to Bucky to explain.

"Did any of you hear what Steve said to Y/n before we were sent out on that mission?" Bucky asks the team, who all shake their heads. "Steve said, that you guys liked Monica more than her and that Monica was the daughter he actually wanted," Bucky says. Steve keeps his head down. His options are either looking at the wound on your abdomen or the looks on his teammate's faces.

"Did you apologize?" Tony asks Steve. Steve can't bear to look up and meet the disappointed eyes of his team, so he keeps his head down.

"No. I sent her on the mission and I was going to talk to her when she got back." Steve says. Everyone looks down on Steve as they walk away.

--

It was a day like any other really, and in all honesty, you should've seen it coming, you were having a bad day, your dad just happened to be too. But you didn't want to upset him, you didn't mean to knock the glass cup off of the table. You were sitting at dinner, everyone else had left the table, while Steve was still trying to get you to eat your veggies. But your six-year-old self was having none of it. You flat out refused to eat them.

"Y/N, come on. You have to eat them if you want to be strong like me" He says, trying to coax you into eating them.

"No! It's not fair. You don't have to eat them" You whine. Steve sighs and walks to the other side of the table.

"Y/N" He warns you. You jump down from your seat, but your arm accidentally catches on the glass, bringing it to the floor and causing it to smash. You flinch on impact and you look up at your dad who now towers above you. You go to walk away, but he harshly grabs your wrist.

"Why do you have to be so difficult?" He asks you. You whimper as you try to pull your small wrist out of the grip his much larger hand has on you. "Just go, I'll clean this up. You can't do anything, can you?" He murmurs the last part. He lets go of your wrist and your bottom lip quivers as you walk away, your head bowed and your big, Y/E/C glossed over with tears. Tony, Nat, and Clint heard it all, and honestly, their hearts broke for you. No six year old should be told those words.

--

Steve lays in his bed, his eyes boring into the plain white ceiling above him. He had a mission, and he failed, he failed big time. It was a difficult mission, but it's never stopped him before. His mission was you. His mission was to raise you, teach you right from wrong, teach you how to stay safe. His mission was to help you through your heartbreaks and to help mend your broken heart, it turns out he'd be the only man to ever break your heart. He was supposed to walk you down the aisle to give you away to the man of your dreams, he was supposed to see you have kids of your own. But he fucked it all up, all because of one person, because of one person, Steve Rogers changed for the worst, then because of Steve Rogers, you lost your life and because you lost your life, Steve Rogers, in some terms, lost his.
