‡ Ship Version ‡

After the first two ships of the Samurai class and the Tsunami battleship were built, the Sun Empire high-rank officers discussed if there was really a need for a third battleship of the Samurai class. Scrapping what the Sun Empire already had built of Katsu was an idea that was discussed, but the idea that won, in the end, was the one of converting Katsu into an aircraft carrier and so they did it.

Having a top speed of 30 knots, Katsu had a very tough armor that was reinforced to protect the new hangar that the ship received. The guns that would penetrate this armor are high-caliber main guns of battlecruisers or the main guns of a battleship, proving that Katsu was quite resilient.

The capacity of the hangar was of 51 planes, being them equal groups of torpedo bombers, dive bombers and fighters. More specifically, each group was composed of 17 planes. This low capacity for aircraft made the officers decide it was best to use her for testing new planes and armaments. All the armament the ship has are prototypes, being them eight twin mounts of 12.7 cm dual-purpose guns, 36 triple mounts of 25 mm AA guns and lastly two 3x4 AA missile launchers. The ship also has prototypes of steam catapults to be tested.

The ship received a camouflage similar to the ones of Samurai and Annaisha. More specifically, the whole ship was covered in black with a red circle in the front part of the conning tower and other two on the sides of the freeboard. Differently from them, Katsu has a dark green line that started on the bow and ended on the aft, passing through the circles. Another line crossed the flight deck, from the start to the end, having over it a red circle close to the start, with the kanji "勝" written in white inside the circle. Other two diagonal green lines crossed the sides of the conning tower.

‡Human Version‡
(Kancolle/Azur Lane)

Katsu is a tall shipboy, being just a bit shorter than Samurai, but still taller than Annaisha. He has a slightly messed black hair, with a single simple streak dyed in dark green, matching with his dark green eyes. Rumors say that his eyes shine in the dark, just like Samurai's and Annaisha's eyes, but they are just rumors. He has lightly tanned skin, having a single scar on his chin. He lost his whole right arm in a fight against an Eagle Empire Submarine of the Fisher class, the same sub that gave him the scar, but he created a robotic arm that could substitute the loss, being painted in pure black and dark green. He usually wears a black military uniform with small details of yellow, being accompanied by his single gold medal and a black cape with a red circle in it, having the kanji "勝" written in white on it. He wears glasses with light blue lenses and also a black band tied on his left arm, having the kanjis "侍" and "案内者" written in white on it.

Out on the seas, he doesn't wear his uniform, instead, he uses very light clothes that make it easier to move around. He takes out the hand of his robotic arm and substitutes it by four missile launchers. He uses samurai armors on his left arm, with his dual-purpose guns with 12.7 cm caliber displayed on his arms, four on the robotic one, four on the normal one, while the AA guns are displayed on his shoulder and attached to a belt. He also uses a rifle he himself developed, with a bayonet attached to it. Lastly, he also has a retractable dual-bladed katana. The band he has is now tied on his rifle instead to be tied on his arm.

Katsu is a rather quiet shipboy, but has deep knowledge in technology, liking to develop, repair and update equipment. This makes him a go-to "ship person", but despite a lot of people go talk to him about getting new equipment, he has a very small list of friends, as he doesn't like to hang out and talk that much. Also, the people that go talk with him only want the equipment, nothing more than that, so they just go away after receiving it. In his free time, he would read a book about technology and make some research with his prototypes. Despite his love for technology, he also likes to be traditional, training with his katana and participating in many cultural events of the Sun Empire. A problem he has, however, is his perfectionist trait, easily getting frustrated and angry when his prototypes don't work or when the battle doesn't go as planned and when he's angry, the only way he finds to calm down is attacking something without relent or hesitation, directing all his anger in objects or enemies.
