Rachel Berry led the glee club in choreography while Finn Hudson was sitting behind the drum kit and Danielle Karofsky played the band cello. The room was organized chaos until their teacher entered the room, waving a piece of paper in his hand, "Great news, guys. Just got the competition bracket for sectionals, and we are in really good shape. There's only two other teams. We beat them, we make it to Regionals."

"Uh, who are the other teams?"

Will sees Finn seated at the drum kit, pointing at him, "Drumroll please, Finn."

With Finn's flourish on the snare drum, Will read off the paper, "School for the deaf in Dayton, and someplace called Jane Addams Academy."

Some of the New Directions smirked at the announcement of their competitors, but Mercedes scoffed in a cocky manner, "Jane Addams? That's a halfway house for girls just getting out of juvie."

"Th-th-this is great!"

"People who can't hear what they're singing and criminals who don't care. It's gonna be a cakewalk. High fi...," Artie agreed with his stuttering girlfriend, turning to receive a high-five from Brittany who gave Santana one instead, leaving him hanging. Dani crossed the room, leaning the cello on its side, and gave Artie the high-five he wanted from Brittany.

During the next rehearsal, the temperature of the room was obvious when Will was directing the more gifted dancers in their choreography, "Five, six, seven, eight. Step, turn, out, in, ball-change, step ball-change step. You, you, you, you. And ba-ba-ba. turn..."

The group falters in their steps, leaving Mike and Dani the only ones still following the choreography, frustrating Mr. Schue, "Come on, guys, you're sleepwalking on me here. Give me some energy. We've got sectionals in two-"

Mercedes cut off Mr. Schue in his chasitation, "Please, sectionals is going to be a breeze."

"Maybe so. But if we coast through sectionals, we're gonna get killed at regionals. We have got to be on our game."

Kurt laughs, interrupting their teacher and earning a rather disappointed look, "Sorry. Funny Youtube. It's the grape stomping one."

Will returned to the choir room later that day for their after school rehearsal, pinning six pictures onto the white board, "Competition. Every one of these people or elements was a champion in their own right. But they used competing with each other to make themselves even better."

Kurt looked at the last set of pictures, seeing an above ground swimming pool printed on one and a strike of lightning on the other, "I don't understand how lightning is in competition with an above-ground swimming pool."

"Just go with it. You guys have become complacent. You were great at the invitational, but you got to up your game if you want to get through sectionals. Okay, split up. Guys on the left side, girls on the right side. Let's go, come on. All right."

Kurt playfully links arms with Danielle Karofsky, skipping to the side of the room that Mr. Schue assigned the girls' team. Will watched the pair, frowning at Kurt's attempt to sing with the female members of the New Directions, "Kurt."

Danielle pouted as Kurt unlinked their arms and stood at Mike's side, furrowing her brows at their teacher for making Kurt return to the male team, "Oh, boo."

After Kurt returned to the correct team, Will continued in his explanation for this week's competition, "Here's the deal. Two teams. Boys versus girls. One week from today, you will each perform a mash-up of your choice."

"What's a mash-up?" Puck questioned, asking the question almost everyone wanted to know.

"A mash-up is when you take two songs and mash them together to make an even richer explosion of musical expression. Boys will perform on Tuesday, girls the next day. I want you guys to go all out, okay. Costumes, choreography. Whoever wins the competition gets to choose the number that we do for sectionals."
