Joanna's POV
A few weeks later, I taught Sophia to ride a bike. But then she fell and hit her knee. I went to get her a band-aid, and when I put it on her, I heard something I would never forget.

"Thank you, mommy", she said.

I looked shocked at her.

"I- Is it okay if I call you that?", she asked with the sweetest voice.

"Of course, honey", I said as I hugged her.

When we got back to the house, Alex wasn't there. I called him many times, but he didn't answer.

When he came back to the house, he looked high.

"Where have you been?", I asked.

"Just out", he said as he coughed.

"Are you high?", I asked him.

"What are you talking about?", he asked.

"Alex, we have a kid!", I said.

"Where have you been lately? You're always gone and you always come home with jokes and weird sentences", I told him.

"Fine, I do drugs", he told me.

"Give me your phone", I said.

"Wait, you're my mother now?", he asked.

"Give me your phone!", I repeated as I took up a gun and aimed it at him.

He gave me his phone and I checked his messages. He had been talking to a woman. He had just had a one night stand.

"What the fuck!?", I yelled.

I shot him in the shoulder.

"Holy shit, you could have hit my neck!", he said.

Kristina came. She looked disappointed at me. I turned around and Sophia stood there.

"Oh god", I thought.

Sophia ran upstairs to her room, and I followed her. She was crying hysterically.

"Honey, I'm so sorry!", I said as I pulled her close to me.

"No, get away from me you monster!!", she yelled.

"Sweetheart, I need to talk to you", I said.

"No!", she cried as she tried to get out of my hands.

"Hush, hush.. it's okay, I'm not gonna hurt you or anyone else", I said as I tried to calm her down.

She was terrified of me. I knew I had to tell her everything. Literally everything. It could be hard for her to understand, but I knew I had to do it. I also told her that we wanted to adopt her to start over like a happy family, and I told her that we didn't want to hurt her. It was very hard for her to understand, but after a few weeks it had gone much better.
