The Life Changing Vacation

~Chapter 194~

Joanna's POV
Emma agreed that she was gonna do anything Alex and I told her to, as long as we kept her alive.  We let her go, but she was gonna be available all the time for when there was something we needed her to do. Emma wasn't the only one to get a new job. Alex and I opened a whole criminality group for criminals that wanted to earn big money for their crimes. Anyone could join the group if they struggled to find normal jobs and really needed the money. But it wasn't easy to get into the group. It required strong abilities to either manipulation or fighting skills. And they were gonna have to be trustworthy.

After a really long time struggling to trust Dory and Kristina again, we decided to let them go to high school. But they had to be home right after school every day, and when they were going somewhere, they had to let us know where and for how long they were gone. The first day of school turned out pretty good. They both got a few friends. But one day when Dory came home from school, she told me she had gotten a friend that explained her family weren't able to pay the rent that month, because her dad lost his job and her mom is just home. ''I would do anything to make sure my family can pay it off, but I have no job and probably won't get one'', the girl told her. Dory had gotten the idea to offer the girl a job in the criminal group that Alex and I just opened. But she asked me before asking the girl. ''What? No! She's just a kid, Emma is enough'', I told Dory. ''But mom, she does literally anything to prevent her family from struggling'', she explained. ''It's nothing to talk about, how old is she? 17? If she wants a job, she can get it on McDonald's. This is not a job for teenagers. She's gonna get arrested or killed the first time'', I sighed. Dory agreed with me. Even though she really wanted to help her new friend.

Kristina's POV
After times went on, Dory began to get more and more of her mother's genes. Her atitude just got worse and worse. She began drinking, smoking a little and carrying weapons. One Saturday, she came home drunk after a party. Joanna was really disappointed when she came home. ''I didn't raise you to become like me these past three years'', she told Dory. ''Oh really? Then explain why you've been partying in front of me, murdering people, tormenting whole families. And what about the day you brought us all the way from New York to Los Angeles in escape from the police? You were always yourself in front of us, Joanna. Don't expect me not to follow your footsteps. Even Janice will'', Dory said and walked upstairs to the bathroom. I could hear the conversation from my room. I went downstairs to see if Joanna was okay, because it was a pretty rough conversation. She wiped a few tears away when she saw me enter the living room. ''Are you okay?'', I asked. Joanna looked at me in irritation and answered ''Yes, I'm fine''. I knew she was lying so I hugged her. ''I'm just afraid everything that happens in this house is going to affect Janice. I feel like I'm starting a whole generation of bad people'', she told me.

The friends Dory got, only last for a few weeks. You know why? Because she had told one of them about her life story. Everything. The criminal group and everything. The group Joanna didn't want her to say anything about. She really wanted to help her family getting the money they needed. But unfortunately that friend wasn't who she thought it was. She was just using her. When Dory suggested that job, she knew exactly who she was, after watching the news enough times. That girl, Katherine, left. And she told the whole school about it.

One night, I woke up to Dory standing in my room, just staring at me. ''Oh shit! Ugh.. you scared me'', I sighed. ''Sorry. I was just thinking something. Why not show the whole school what they're dealing with?'', she asked. ''What do you mean by that?'', I worried asked her. I could see the anger in her eyes. After one of her best friends betrayed her. I knew exactly what she was going to do. She was vengeful. ''Don't do this'', was all I said before getting my phone. Dory left the room, and I warned the whole school, that something horrible was gonna happen the next day. She never showed up in the lunch room that day at school. I wondered where she way, and I got a little nervous. Just when I was about to call her, I heard a gunshot and realized she had just started a school shooting. Everyone screamed. Some of them tried to run out of the school, but she shot after them so nobody dared. ''Everything is gonna be okay, guys. You're not the ones I wanna hurt. So if anyone would please tell me where Katherine Johnson is, then I would be happy'', she said with a grin. ''Dory, what the hell are you doing? Please put down the gun. This is not the solution'', I said. ''Isn't it? That bitch told the whole school about our secret, after I just had started to be happy. Everything was so calm, not everyone in the Murphy household had killed a single soul for months! We were supposed to start over. Even Alex and Joanna had found their peace! And now we're all losing everything. So if you guys wanna live, tell me where she is so that I can end this drama'', Dory aimed the gun at everyone. ''I understand you want to get the blood off of your hands, but believe me when I say that this isn't the way to do it'', I told her. ''Tell me where she is! You know what? I'll just do it myself'', she said and shot me in the leg. I fell, and all I could see everyone panicking and she was gone. She ran to find Katherine. ''Shit'', I thought. ''I'm calling 911'', the employee in the canteen said. The headmistress warned everyone to stay in the canteen, and to not go anywhere.

Katherine's POV
When I heard something horrible was gonna happened that day at school, I knew exactly what was going on. Dory was after me. I was hiding in the corridors when I heard someone come. ''Hello? Is someone here?'', I heard. It was Dory. I was hiding behind a wall. She was getting closer and closer. My heart was beating faster and faster. I snuck further past the corridor. I had forgotten to turn off my phone, and I heard a notification. The worst part is that Dory also heard it. ''Katherine? Is that you? You cannot hide forever'', she said. Suddenly, she took a turn in the corridor, and saw me. ''Found you'', she giggled. I started running, hoping she wouldn't get me. She was trying to shoot me. ''Please'', I yelled.

Joanna's POV
Alex and I was doing a job interview with some kind of drug dealer when we heard the phone ring. It was Kristina. ''Joanna, you need to come here! Dory is going crazy!'', she cried. ''Honey, what is going on?'', I asked worried. ''You'll see when you get here, but come fast before she kills someone'', she said and hung up. Alex and I quickly anded the job interview and got the car keys and a gun. Alex were the only one who had his gun. Mine was gone. ''Oh shit, don't tell me the she-'', I begun. When we came to the school, police cars and ambulances was outside of the school. Alex ran before me, but got stopped by a cop. ''Sir, you can't get in, there's a school shooting going on in there'', he told us. ''Oh yes we can'', Alex said and showed him his LAPD sign. He had just gotten a new job at the Los Angeles Police Department, so the police let us come inside. We found Dory holding a gun to a girl's head. ''Dory! Stop!'', I yelled. ''Mom? Alex? What are you doing here?'', she asked. ''Stopping what diabolical thing you are about to do. You need to listen to me. You can't become like me'', I cried. ''But I am, okay? So get out of here, and let me do what I do best'', she said. ''You are not me! You are so much better than me, sweetie. So please, put down the gun. If you don't do any changes in your life soon, it's gonna be too late, You don't want to become the monster I am. So please, let me help you'', I begged. ''But she told the whole school about us'', Dory cried. I didn't know what to say. I got pissed at her friend, but at the same time I would have done the same if I was her. ''Still, hand me the gun'', I demanded. After a long time, she finally handed me the gun. Just then, I aimed it at  her friend. ''I actually just wanted to do it myself, so do you have any last words?'', I asked. ''Joanna, what are you doing? You can't hurt a kid'', Alex explained. ''No, you can't'', I heard a familiar voice behind me. It was Kristina. ''Please don't hurt her'', she begged. ''You've been doing a great job for months. Remember what you told me. You don't want Janice to be affected by our crimes''. She was right, I had to stop this. I had to stop it all. ''You're the key to your own happiness. And you are the key to your own chance'', was the last thing Kristina said before I put down the gun. ''You're lucky this time. But if you keep spreading the word, then your head might not be stuck to your body much longer'', I threatened the teenager. I turned around and looked at Dory. ''We need to switch you both to a different school'', I said. ''Joanna, don't we have a baby at home, sleeping? Did we just leave her?'', Alex asked. ''Oh no, it's fine. I hired a babysitter while we were gone'', I answered. "What? Who?", he asked. "Emma", I said and smiled. "Are you out of your mind? Do you trust that brat with our child?!", he yelled. "Oh shit", I thought. We managed to convince the police to let Dory go because she didn't kill anyone. We managed to do it, because Alex was working with the police, and used his own funny little way. We went home, and Janice was gone. Alex and I looked at each other in panic.
