Five months later, Ben and Joe got called in the middle of the night. It was Cat telling them she was having contractions. Of course, both boys rushed over to her house, not wanting to let her do it all on her own.
After a small hour of contractions, they were less than four minutes apart, which was their sign to go to the hospital. There it became clear that Cat was still pretty far away from the ten centimeters, which meant it could take a while before their daughter would be here.
After two hours of talking and contractions, a sudden stinging pain rushed through Cat’s body. It was pretty obvious that this wasn’t just a contraction, and so they called the doctor in for some tests.

After all kinds of tests and an ultrasound, the doctor scribbles something down with a frown.
'Is everything okay?' Cat asks him. With a frightened look, she looks at Ben and Joe.
The doctor looks up again. 'The heart rate of the baby is too high. That caused the long pain you felt.' He explains.
Cat raises her eyebrow. 'So I wasn't having contractions?' She asks confused.
The doctor shakes his head. 'No, you are having contractions. But the last pain you felt wasn't a contraction, hence it didn't fade.' He explains.
'S-so, what now? Are they gonna be okay?' Joe asks, locking his hand together with Ben's.
The doctor nods. 'Yes. But to make sure of that, a c-section will be needed. The sooner it happens, the better it is for the baby and the mom.' He says, looking at Cat.
She just nods, overwhelmed by this sudden information.
'The OR will be free in about fifteen minutes. So if you're okay with it, we'd like to start with the surgery as soon as we can.' The doctor says.
Cat nods again, to say she's okay with it.
'I'll be back in fifteen minutes to take you to the OR then.' The doctor says before leaving.
Cat takes a deep breath. 'I guess a c-section it is.' She says.
Ben gives her a reassuring smile. 'You'll be okay, really.' He says when he notices the nervous look in Cat's eyes.
Joe nods in agreement. 'Yeah. And at least now you won't be in pain anymore.' He says.
Cat giggles softly. 'Do you even know how a c-section goes?'
Joe shakes his head. 'Not really.'
'He didn't want to read any pregnancy slash parenting books because he was scared he'd freak out even more once you'd go into labour.' Ben says with a small grin.
Joe nods. 'I didn't wanna do that to you.' He says with a serious face.
Cat giggles softly. 'How thoughtful of you.'

After fifteen minutes of talking to kill some time, the doctor enters the room. 'Are you ready to go to the OR?' He asks Cat.
She nods. 'Yeah, I guess.'
Both Ben and Joe get up from their seats as soon as the doctor unlocks the small wheels of Cat's hospital bed.
'I'm sorry, but I'm afraid you two will have to wait in the hallway. Because we called in some extra nurses there isn't much room left.' The doctor says to the two boys.
Cat immediately frowns. 'What? But they're the fathers.' She says.
The doctor shows her an apologetic look. 'I'm sorry, I really tried for you, but there's no way I could get you two in.' He says.
'It's okay, we can wait in the hallway.' Joe says, trying to not sound disappointed.
And with their hearts beating in their throats, Ben and Joe watch Cat being taken to the OR to have their baby girl.

'I hope Cat and the baby are doing okay. Cat's been in the OR for like an hour now.' Joe mumbles, looking at his watch.
Ben smiles and pulls his husband onto his lap. 'I'm sure they are honey.' He says reassuringly before giving the boy a kiss on the cheek.
Joe crooks his face into the collar of Ben's sweater, and inhales the boy's scent. 'After tonight we are parents.' He whispers.
Ben nods with a huge smile. 'For the rest of our lives.' He adds in a soft voice. 'Can you believe how far we've gotten?' He says, looking at the scar on his wrist he got from the time he cut himself to write Joe a message. The time he got kidnapped.
'Four years ago I was waiting for you to wake up.' Joe says, gently rubbing his thumb over the scar.
Ben smiles, and leans in to peck Joe's lips. 'I love you baby.'
'I love you too.' Joe mumbles with a smile.
