Chapter 30

Ben is curled up in bed, facing Roger. His eyes are closed, but he looks far from peaceful right now. The boy looks pale, and even though he's asleep a conflicted look is coating his face. Next to him on the nightstand is the knife Corey sent him.
In panic, Roger sits down in the chair next to the bed. 'Ben? Ben, please wake up.' He says softly.
Roger gets up and gently pulls the duvet Ben is lying under away. He is relieved when he sees Ben's arms. No cuts. So he is still on time.
Roger grabs his phone and sends Brian a message. 

(17:19 Pm) Roger: I'm still on time. Fortunately, the knife has not been used. Ben is now asleep. I'm worried about him. He looks very pale. Can you guys come over here?

(17:18 Pm) Brian: We'll get right there. I hope Ben will be fine. Joe is not far from a panic attack I'm afraid. We'll be there in ten minutes. Notify me if there is anything or you need anything.

Roger sits down again in the chair next to the bed.
Then his eye falls on Ben's suitcase, which is next to his nightstand. Roger lifts the suitcase and feels it is packed. 'So you're leaving, huh?' Roger whispers softly to the sleeping boy. 
The drummer stares ahead, deeply absorbed in his thoughts. Every now and then he gets up and walks nervously around the room.

After ten minutes, there is a knock on the door. That will be the others. He opens the door and lets the four in. Joe immediately sits down next to Ben, in the chair where Roger just sat.
'How's Joe doing?' Roger asks the others quietly.
'Not great. In the car he had a panic attack. He's really concerned about Ben.' Brian says.
Roger sighs and looks with pity at Joe, who is sadly sitting on the bed next to Ben.
'It gets worse.' Roger tells. 'Ben has packed his suitcase. He is leaving.'
Gwil and Rami's eyes widen.
'Leaving? Joe can't handle that. Why does he suddenly want to leave now?' Rami says as he looks at Ben.
The blond boy is still asleep, but seems to get paler by the minute.
'Because he doesn't want to put us in danger.' Brian says softly.
Roger, Rami and Gwil look at the guitarist questioningly.
'In the letter, Corey wrote that he will be able to find Ben and us if we call the police. He's leaving to save us, and especially Joe.' Brian explains.
'I think we should wake him up. He really looks very pale. That can not be good.' Gwil says with a frown.
The others nod in agreement.
Rami walks to the bed. 'Joe? Do you want to wake Ben? It's almost a quarter to six, and I think he'd like to eat something.' He gives the ginger an encouraging nod. 
Joe nods.
'In the meantime we will go and get something to eat.' Gwil says. 

When everyone has left the room, a tear rolls down Joe's cheek. 'You don't deserve this at all Benny.' He whispers as he runs his fingers through Ben's hair. He quickly wipes away the tear and takes a deep breath.
Gently, he shakes Ben shoulder, hoping he will wake up. 'Benny, wake up.' Joe says softly. He takes Ben's hand. 'It's time to wake up buddy.' He feels Ben's forehead with his hand to see if he might have a fever.
Then a soft whimper escapes Ben's mouth. 'No, don't hurt me. Leave us alone!' The blond boy yanks his hand out of Joe's, and starts tossing violently.
'Ben, it's me, Joe. Please wake up.' Joe pleads.
Then Ben's eyes suddenly shoot open. He straightens up, still breathing heavily. He looks confused at Joe.
Joe can see he wants to say something, but can't find any words. 'It's okay. It was just a dream.' The ginger says softly. Without saying anything more, he sits down on the bed next to Ben.
Ben puts his head on Joe's chest, trying to calm down by listening to the boy's heartbeat. 'I'm so scared Joe.' He mumbles, closing his eyes.
'I know.' Joe whispers. 'Let's try to focus on something else tonight, okay? We can worry about it tomorrow. I won't leave you.'
Ben smiles a little against the boy's chest. 'Thank you. And you're right. Let's focus on something better tonight.' He says. He crawls a little closer to Joe, enjoying the sound of his heart beating.
They remain in this way for a few minutes.
Hundreds of thoughts rush through Ben's mind. His thinking is interrupted by someone holding his hand. He opens his eyes, and meets Joe's.
'I- I've been wanting to say something to you for a while now.' Joe stutters with a blush on his cheeks.
'Me too.' Ben says with a nervous smile on his face. His heart is pounding like crazy.
'You go first.' Joe says with a nervous smile.
'No you first.' Ben says.
Joe chuckles. 'Let's say it together.'
Ben nods. 'three, two one.' 

Just then the door of the hotel room opens.
'Who's in the mood for pizza?' Joe recognizes Rami's voice but can't see him through the boxes of pizza hiding his face.
Joe chuckles. 'Sounds good.'
Ben nods in agreement. 'I'm starving.' 
Gwil smiles when he sees that Ben can smile a little again. 'Brian and Roger went home. They had to rehearse with Adam.' He explains.
Rami gives a pizza box to Ben. 'Enjoy your meal, Mr Hardy.' He gives Ben a wink.
'Thank you guys. For everything today.' Ben says as he looks at Joe.
The ginger gives him a reassuring smile before he gets up. 'Who wants something to drink?'
There is some murmuring in agreement.
Joe smiles and walks to the kitchen.
'So, when are you going to tell him?' Gwil asks Ben, who is just taking a bite of his pizza.
'Tell him what?' Ben asks with his mouth full.
'That you're leaving.' Rami says. 
Ben swallows and looks down. 'I uhm. I do not know.' 
Gwil looks at him with a raised eyebrow. 'Where are you even going?'
Ben sighs deeply. 'I just miss home. And now that we have two weeks off from filming, I can go home. And then at least you guys are safe.' He mumbles sadly.
'So you leave without saying anything to him because Corey want you to?' Rami says as he looks at his friend incredulously.
Gwil sighs. 'Ben, go to the police. They will protect you and us. And before Corey can do anything, he's in jail.' He looks hard at Ben. He really hopes Ben will listen to him.
When Ben doesn't respond to what Gwil just said, Rami speaks up. 'Ben, Joe loves you. And if you did not realize that yet, it is time you started to see it. You can't just leave without saying something. It would break his heart. He's concerned about you. In the car he had a panic attack because he was afraid something would happen to you.' The black-haired boy says with a stern look.
Gwil looks in surprise at his friend. Little did he know that Rami could be so sensitive.
'He's coming.' Gwil says.
Rami mouths a quick "tell him" to Ben before Joe can see it.
