Chapter 46

'Joe? Joe wake up!' Rami sits down on the edge of Joe's bed and starts shaking him gently.
Gwil also sits down on the bed. He looks concerned at Joe.
The ginger's forehead is covered in sweat, and on his cheeks can the stains from all the tears still be seen. Joe's chest rises and falls rapidly, and with a frightened look on his face, he tosses back and forth.
'Joe, wake up. Come on.' Gwil is now also trying to wake him up. 
Joe sits up, gasping for breath. In panic he looks next to him, at Ben's bed.
'Calm down, Ben is still here. We're here.' Rami says softly. 
He and Gwil both sit close to their friend, each on either side of Joe.
Still sweaty and out of breath, Joe bows his head. 'I just really hoped this was all part of the nightmare.' He whispers with tears in his eyes, looking around the room. 
Rami and Gwil both put their arms around Joe. They sit like this for a while, until Joe calms down a bit.
'Thanks guys. Sorry you had to see me like this.' He gets up and walks to Ben. He gives him a kiss. 'Good morning honey.'
Gwil and Rami look at each other with a small smile.
'Why don't you take a shower, Joe? Then we'll cheer up the room in the meantime. I have the photos with me, as promised.' Gwil says.
Joe nods. 'That might be a good idea, yeah.' He mumbles. 

Not much later Joe is out of the shower, and the room is full of photos.
'Hey Gwil, where is Lina anyway?' Rami asks curiously.
'She's at home, probably still in bed. She didn't feel so good this morning. You know, morning sickness. But she has her ultrasound here at noon. She also said she would bring some flowers to brighten up Ben's room.' Gwil explains.
Joe's lips curl into a smile. 'That's very sweet of her.' He says with a smile. 
Their conversation is interrupted by a knock on the door. The nurse comes in, followed by Lucy.
Rami jumps up as soon as he sees her. 'Luce?' He runs over to her and flies into her arms. 'I didn't know you were back already my love.' He says happily.
Lucy gives a soft giggle at Rami's surprised face. 'Well as soon as I heard from Ben's situation I took the first plane over here.' She says. Her eyes widen as soon as she sees Ben. She rushes over to his bed.
Joe sees tears come to her eyes.
Meanwhile, Gwil is talking to the nurse.
Rami tries to pick up the conversation, but he is too far away to hear.
Gwil nods, and the nurse leaves the room.
'What was that about?' Rami asks curiously as soon as the door of the room closes.
'The nurse just told me that Ben's heart rate is back to normal, and the traces of the sleep aid are gone. His blood is completely clean.' Gwil says with a smile.
Joe breathes a sigh of relief. 'Did she say how long he'll be kept asleep?'
Gwil nods. 'Because he has made so much progress within one night, they expect to wake him up within a week. He will have to stay here for a while for a checkup after that.' 
Joe looks happily at Ben. 'Did you hear that Benny? You'll be up again in a week, and then everything will be fine.' He takes Ben's hand, and places a kiss on the back of it.
Lucy looks at Rami and Gwil in surprise.
Rami giggles softly. 'I haven't told her yet.' He says to Gwil. He turns to Joe. 'Are you going to tell her yourself?'
Joe nods. He gets up with a big smile. 'Ben is my boyfriend. Three days ago he asked me if I want to be his boyfriend on our date.' 
Lucy's eyes widen, and a big smile appears on her face. 'Oh my god, I am so happy for you Joey!' She exclaims before she gives him a hug.
Joe smiles at that. 'Thank you Luce.' He says softly.

When Lucy lets go she sits down next to Ben's bed. 'Do you promise me to take good care of him, Ben?' She says to the blond boy. Then she turns to Joe. 'And you take good care of Ben, okay?'
Joe nods with a smile. 'Will do.' He says.
'Oh I almost forgot, but I have something for Ben.' Lucy says, searching her bag.
Joe, Rami and Gwil look at each other questioningly. 
Lucy walks over to Ben and takes out a lucky bracelet. Just like Joe got from her. 
Joe smiles as soon as he gets her plan.
The blonde girl is about to put the bracelet on Ben, but gasps as soon as she sees his wrists. 'Jesus what happened?' She asks, shocked. 
Gwil quickly gets up and examines Ben's wrists. He too has to swallow when he sees the wounds of the iron chain. The chain has left large, red, painfully looking welts. 'Looks like they tied him up too tight.' Gwil whispers in shock.
Rami stands next to Lucy and puts an arm around her. He gives her a small kiss on the cheek, as some kind of reassurance.
All Joe can do is stare at Ben with tears in his eyes.  
The silence in the room is broken by Gwil receiving a call. The boy answers his phone a little startled. 'Hey sweetie. Gosh is it that late already? Yes of course, come in. Okay love.' He ends the call and turns to Joe. 'Lina is here with the flowers.' He says with a smile. He has just finished his sentence and the door opens.
Lina is standing in the doorway, holding a large bouquet of flowers. She puts the flowers on the table and smiles shyly.
Lucy introduces herself, and then Lina and Gwil have to leave for the ultrasound.

*Knock Knock.*
Joe gets up and opens the door. He is quite startled when he sees Gwil standing in the doorway with red eyes. 
Without saying a word, Gwil and Lina walk into the room.
'Where's Lucy?' Lina asks. 'We have to tell you something.' She says in a sad tone.
Joe and Rami look at each other intently. With Lina's sad look and the fact that Gwil has been crying doesn't bode very well...
