Chapter 72

'Hey sexy.' With a grin, Ben wraps his arm around Joe's hips and pulls him closer.
Slowly the two move their heads towards each other, and soon their lips meet once again.
'So, it's your birthday in a week.' Ben says, slightly out of breath.
Joe chuckles and nods. 'I know, I remember.'
Ben rolls his eyes with a smile.Together, the two plop down on the couch. 'Don't ruin the moment Joey. I was about to ask you something romantic.' Ben says in a whiny voice.
Joe giggles and crawls close to Ben. 'Okay, I'll shut up. Now tell me, you made me curious.' He says with a smile.
Ben takes a deep breath. 'Okay, so what I was going to say is next week is your birthday. But two weeks after that, it's our one year anniversary as a couple. So I was wondering what you wanna have for your birthday, and if I can take you out at our anniversary? I have something special in mind.' The blond says with a modest smile. 

Before Joe can respond to that, the doorbell rings and interrupts their conversation.
Ben gives him a kiss on the cheek and stands up. 'I'll get it.' He walks to the door, leaving a smiling Joe behind on the couch.
Joe can hear the door open, followed by some voices. He can clearly hear Ben talk, but can't hear who he's talking to. And so he looks up in surprise when he sees Rami enter the living room, followed by Ben.
Joe can tell from his bloodshot eyes that his friend has been crying. 'Rami? What happened? Are you okay?' He looks questioningly at Ben, who shrugs.
'No. I- I screwed up everything.' Rami sighs.
Ben gives him a gentle nudge towards the sofa. 'Have a seat. I'll get you some water.'
Rami nods gratefully and sits down on the couch next to Joe.
'Now, calmly tell me what's going on. I haven't spoken to you in a while?' Joe asks gently.
Rami takes a deep breath and nods. 'That's right. Lucy and I have a fight, and since then I've gone from bar to bar to drink it away. I've been wasted as hell and I missed the birth of the twins as a result. I'm a terrible friend Joe.' A sob escapes his mouth. 

Joe puts his hand on Rami's shoulder. 'Oh stop it, you know that's not true. You are a great friend. But now tell me why you and Lucy are fighting? You have never had a fight before.' He says.
Ben sits down in the chair opposite the two of them and looks slightly proud how Joe talks Rami down. Still, he can't help but feel a little bit jealous.
'Well, a few days ago, Lucy and I wanted to order pizza. I borrowed her phone because my battery had died. And then I saw a message coming in from someone named Oliver.' Rami stops talking for a moment, just staring straight ahead.'The message said "I love you too". I'm so scared she's cheating on me.' Rami says with a sob.
Ben and Joe's eyes widen. 'That doesn't seem like Lucy, to be honest.' Ben says carefully.
Rami nods. 'I know. I just hope I'm wrong.' He sniffles. 
'Does she know you saw the message?' Joe asks.
Rami just shakes his head at that.
Joe gets up from the couch. 'I'm going to call her. Just to let her know you're safe and sleep here tonight.'
Rami looks up with a frown. 'No no, I don't want to bother you. I can sleep in a hotel. Really, don't worry about me.'
Ben smiles and shakes his head. 'Dude, we have a guest room for a reason. And you won't bother us, ever. We want you to stay, really.' 
Joe nods in agreement.
'Sweetheart, why don't you get the guest room ready? I need Rami to give me some advice.' Ben says with a chuckle to Joe.
A little surprised, Joe gets up and nods. 'Yeah sure. I'll be right back.' And even though he actually wants to overhear what Ben is saying to Rami, he decides to walks to the guest room.

'So look, I have some things planned for Joe and me, for our one year anniversary. I booked us a little getaway. But I'm not sure if Joe would like it.' Ben says softly.
Immediately a smile appears on Rami's face. 'Well, let me see then.' Rami says with a grin.

'Ben, Joe is going to love this.' Rami says after a while, after Ben showed him everything he has in mind.
Ben smiles with relief. 'So it's not too cheesy?'
Rami shakes his head. 'No, it is romantic. If he doesn't like this, I'll come after him.'
Rami says with a serious face, making Ben laugh.
The blond looks at his watch. 'Well, Joe does take a long time to get those sheets.' Ben says when Joe still hasn't returned from the guest room after ten minutes.
Rami shrugs.
'I'm going to check on him. Be right back.' Ben says.
Rami smiles and nods.
When Ben is out of the living room, he takes out his phone. With a slight doubt, he decides to unblock Lucy and send her a message.

(22:39 Pm) Rami: Hey Luce. I know we're in a fight, but to be honest I miss you. Can we please talk tomorrow? I'm sure we'll work it out together. Please?

When Ben opens the guest room door, his lips curl into a smile. He leans against the door frame and just looks at what he finds in the room.
Joe is sitting in the chair next to the bed, more asleep than awake. 'I wanted to wait until you finished talking.' The ginger mumbles softly.
Ben sees that he has to make an effort to keep his eyes open. 'Love, let's go to bed. You're tired.' The blond says softly with a smile.
Joe shakes his head.
Ben hears him mumbling something, which sounds like a "I'm not tired".
Ben giggles softly and walks over to him. He carefully lifts Joe.
The latter spontaneously falls asleep in his arms. 
He walks towards their bedroom with the ginger in his arms and gently puts him down on the bed. 'I'll be right back baby. Sweet dreams.' He whispers, although he knows Joe won't hear him anymore.
He quietly sneaks out of the room and walks into the living room where Rami is still sitting on the couch. 'Joe has fallen asleep.' Ben says to Rami with a chuckle. 'And I think I'm going to bed too. You can watch some TV if you want, but your room is ready for tonight. Just make yourself at home.'
Rami nods gratefully and gets up. 'Thanks again for letting me stay here. I think I'll go to bed too.' He says with a small smile.
'Goodnight Rami.'
'Goodnight Ben.'
