Chapter 77

Speechless because of these sweet words from his boyfriend, Joe hands the envelope to Ben. 
With a nervous smile, Ben takes the envelope and gets up. He walks over to Joe and takes his hand.
Overwhelmed, Joe also gets up. 'Ben, I don't understa-' 
Ben shushes him by putting his finger in front of Joe's mouth. He opens the envelope and pulls out a ring. He gets down to one knee, with Joe's hand still in his. 
Joe gasps and puts his hand over his mouth.
'Joe, I've probably said it a thousand times before, but I love you. I love everything about you. The way you care about the people around you. The way you smile. The twinkle in your eyes when you are excited. That makes you unique. And I never want to lose those beautiful twinkling eyes. I want you with me forever. Because you're the only one who knows me deep inside. I can't keep anything from you. You make me so incredibly happy Joey. That is why I ask you, Joseph Francis Mazzello the third. Will you make me even happier and marry me?' Ben asks with a nervous smile.

Joe feels his heart leap in his chest for joy. He feels his hands tremble, his stomach flipping. The first tear is ready to make its way down his cheek.'Oh my god......- Yes, yes! Of course I will. I love you so much Benny.' Joe exclaims happily. He gets down on his knees and kisses Ben passionately.
When they pull away, Ben asks with a big smile: 'So that means I can put this ring on your finger?'
Joe nods happily. 'Yes. Yes please.'
The two get up, and Ben takes Joe's right hand to put the ring on his finger.
'C-can I cry now?' Joe asks with a smile, and in a trembling voice.
Ben burst out in laughter and nods. He himself already started crying when Joe said yes. 
Once the ring is on Joe's finger, he holds it right in front of his face for a closer look. The tiny diamond sparkles in the light of the rising moon. Tears of joy flow down Joe's cheeks. 'Ben, it's so beautiful.' He whispers, almost choking in tears.
The smile on Ben's face only gets bigger when his fiancé says this. He takes Joe's right hand and kisses the ring. 'I love you.'
Joe chuckles softly, pulling Ben close to him. 'I love you too, future husband.' 
The two both feel the butterflies in their stomach. Nobody can take this moment from them anymore.
'Can we please look at the stars together?' Joe asks, still sniffling softly.
Ben nods with a big smile. 'I would love that Joey.'

And so not much later the two lie side by side in the green grass, staring at the sky.
'My heart feels like it is glowing.' Joe whispers. He carefully lays his head on Ben's chest, and chuckles when he feels the younger boy's heart pounding. 'Is that the happiness I feel or the nerves?' He asks.
Ben chuckles and pulls the ginger closer. 'Both. You have no idea how afraid I was that you would say no.'
Joe takes Ben's hand, and intertwines their fingers. 'No way I was gonna say no. I want nothing more than to marry you. In fact, I already told my parents that I was thinking about proposing to you.'
Ben smiles at that.
Then Joe realizes something. 'I hope we have their blessing. When I told them about my plan, they told me they both thought it was too soon.'
Ben squeezes Joe's hand gently. He smiles when he sees Joe's worried look. 'Baby, don't worry. They said that because they knew I was about to propose to you. I called them to ask their blessing first. I know how important your family is to you.' 
Joe looks up with a smile and gives Ben a kiss on the lips. 'You are so sweet, angel.' He whispers.

Ben buries his head in Joe's neck and inhales his scent.
A silence falls. The two watch the clear starry sky and listen to the sounds of the city.
'So, were my parents the only ones who knew about the proposal?' Joe asks curiously after a while.
Ben shakes his head. 'No, my father knew about it too. But nobody else. I did tell Rami about this bungalow though. I was afraid it was too cheesy.' He explains while playing with Joe's ginger hair.
'I love it when you do that.' Joe says softly.
'What?' Ben asks, confused.
'Playing with my hair. It makes me feel safe. I know it's silly, but still.' Joe whispers. He feels his cheeks turning red.
Ben giggles softly. 'Anything for you Blanket.'

'I can't wait to tell the others.' Joe says enthusiastically.
Ben smiles and nods. 'Me neither. Can't wait to see their faces.'
Joe giggles softly. He crawls closer to Ben and closes his eyes. He feels Ben's hand caress his face, his eyes on him.
'Let's go inside baby. It is late and it is starting to get cold.' Ben says softly.
Joe opens his eyes and shakes his head.
'I want to stay of here with you. It's all just so perfect.'
Ben chuckles when Joe yawns. 'Sweetheart you're tired.'
Joe shakes his head. 'No I'm not.'
Ben giggles. 'Yeah I have heard that before.'
Joe shrugs with a smile and buries his head in Ben's neck. Yet, he has to make an effort not to fall asleep.
Ben gives Joe a kiss on the cheek and sits up. 'Come on, on your feet.' 
Joe nods obediently and gets up.
'Okay then.' He mumbles.

After they've both put on their sleeping outfit and brushed their teeth, the two crawl into bed next to each other.
Ben takes Joe's hand, and intertwines their fingers. 'I love you, my fiancé.' He whispers softly to Joe, who is almost asleep.
'I love you too Benny. More than anything in the world.' Joe mumbles, more asleep than awake.
With big smiles and their fingers still intertwined, the two fall asleep.
