Chapter 71

The next day, Gwil, Lina and the twins are allowed to go home.
When they get home they are overwhelmed by what they see.
Lucy, Ben and Joe stand in their living room, surrounded by streamers and presents.
The two carefully put down the maxi cosi's. 'Ahw guys, you really shouldn't have.' Lina says softly as she looks around the room in awe.
Ben chuckles when he sees the surprised faces of the two. 'We know, but since we all have presents for the girls, we thought we could make it a little party. After that we'll fuck off so you can enjoy the baby snuggles.' He says with a wink.
Lucy and Joe nod in agreement.
With a smile, Lina and Gwil take the two sleeping little ones out of the maxi cosi and carefully place them in the playpen.
'So how did the night go?' Lucy asks curiously.
Gwil shrugs. 'Pretty good actually. They only woke up once because they were hungry. So I fed them so Lina could get some extra sleep. Then they both fell asleep like a log again.' He tells proudly.
The five sit on the couch.
'That's really great. So, about the presents: Brian and Roger have a present for the twins too, but we had to tell you to read the letter first.' Joe says with a chuckle. He hands the present to Lina and the letter to Gwil.
The latter unfolds the letter and reads it out loud.

Dear Gwilym and Lina. Congratulations on you two little miracles.
You are wonderful parents already, and from now on it will only get more fun ;)
Of course we want you girls to get the right taste in music, but our gift will help with that.
And hopefully it will help with the sleepless nights too.
We will come soon to New York to admire them.

'Oh gosh, now I'm really curious about the gift.' Gwil chuckles.
'Well open it up!' Joe says impatiently. Lina giggles and gently rips the wrapping paper off. She looks at the contents of the gift with twinkling eyes. A baby pink mobile comes out. When she presses the button, the sound of a music box fills the room.
And it sounds very familiar.

'Nahw...' Lina has to do her best not to shed a tear when she sees the little stars and hearts spinning on the mobile.
Joe chuckles softly and taps Ben. 'See, I'm not the only easier cryer here.'
Lina rolls her eyes with a smile. 'The difference is that I am one day postpartum and you are not. So I have a right to cry.' She sticks out her tongue playfully.
'Okay okay, that's true. You win.' Joe raises his hands apologetically.
'Never underestimate the power of a brand new mommy, Mazzello!' Lucy giggles. 
Gwil gets up. 'I'll pour us some more drinks. Luce, would you mind helping me?'
The blonde girl shakes her head and gets up, following her friend into the kitchen.

'So forgive me if I'm wrong, but you don't seem quite alright?' Gwil asks Lucy as soon as they get into the kitchen.
She sighs and shakes her head. 'No, you're right. I'm just concerned about Rami.'
Gwil looks at her with a questioning look.
'We got into a fight a few days ago. He left that night, and I haven't heard from him since. I don't even know if he is safe and where he is.' Lucy explains.
Gwil's eyes widen. He has known Rami and Lucy for just over a year now, and they've never had a fight in all that time. 'Oh jeez, I didn't know that. Do you want me to call him for you?' He asks.
Lucy shakes her head. 'No no, I can't bother you with my relationship problems. You have the twins to take care of and-' Before she can say anything else, Gwil interrupts her.
'Luce, I may have become a father, but I'm still your friend. I'll call him to see if he's safe, okay?' Gwilym says with a caring smile.
Lucy nods. 'Thanks Gwil. Thank you so much.'

That evening Gwil tries to reach Rami by phone. Unfortunately he gets sent to Rami's voicemail every time.
With a sigh, he puts his phone away and continues to cook dinner. Now that the twins are asleep, he has convinced Lina to take a short nap before dinner as well. As a surprise, he is making her favorite dish. 
Then the doorbell rings. He turns the stove down a little and hurries to the door.
He is slightly startled when he sees Rami standing in the doorway. Gwil can tell from his attitude that he is drunk.
'Heyyyyy Gwil! C- can I c-come in pleeeeease?' Rami asks just a little too hard. 
Gwil steps outside, leaving the door ajar. 'Shh Rami, people are asleep in this house.' He says a bit angry.
Rami rolls his eyes. 'P-please let me stay tonight? I need a p-place to staaay.' He stutters desperately.
At that moment, Gwil recalls what he said to Lucy this afternoon. 

"I may have become a father, but I'm still your friend." 

Still, in this case he has to think about his two girls. And Lina.'Sorry Rami, but you're drunk as hell, and I can't let you around my kids like that. Sorry.'
Then he sees Rami's eyes widen. 'L-Lina has already given birth?' He stammers in surprise.
Gwil nods, and he can't help but smile when they're talking about his kids. 'Yes, the twins were born yesterday afternoon. I thought Lucy texted you?' Gwil asks.
Rami looks down and shrugs. 'Well, I m-might have kinda blocked her since our fight a few days ago.' He says softly.
Gwil shakes his head disapprovingly. 'Well that explains. Listen Rami, I can't let you stay here. Because of the girls, you know? But go by Ben and Joe. And when you're sober again, you can come and see the twins tomorrow. They're the cutest.' He says proudly with a wink.
Rami smiles and nods. 'Y-yeah, I will do that. And sorry I wasn't there. I should have been.' He smiles at Gwil, and then heads for Ben and Joe.
