Dina walked back up to her house, which was currently being decorated for Halloween. So far there was only a coffin out front. "Mommy!" From the distance stood a little girl with black hair, standing next to girl who looked just like her. These twin girls were Dina's daughters, Mona and Lisa, named after a painting because of her husband's hobby. "Come over here!", called Lisa, who was the loud one of the twins. Dina did as her daughter said, walking past the coffin. It opened up, and an animatronic vampire popped out, making the blonde woman jump. The girls went into fits of laughter.
Dina recovered from her fright, walking into the house where her husband, Helen, was standing in front of a blank, white wallpaper. His finger was coated with red paint, as he drew menacing words and shapes onto the wallpaper.
Dina cleared her throat, making Helen turn around."Oh. Hi, Darling." "Helen, why did you have to get that coffin outside?" "To scare people, like you're supposed to do on Halloween." "Does that include me?" Helen sighed. He knew his wife can get pouty when something gives her a scare. He turned around and gave her a hug. "I'm sorry. I'll put it away." "No, you don't have to. I'll just be careful around it." "Just stay far from it when you want to walk past it. It has a motion sensor." Dina put a finger to her chin. "So that's how it works." Helen laughed a bit.
The door opened again and the twins stepped in. "Kids, did you scare your mother?" Lisa twirled her foot against the floor while her hands were behind her back. "Maybe." Helen looked at Mona, who did the same as her sister, only she looked down. The artist pulled his wife closer, whispering in her ear. "I know the perfect way to punish them. Just play along." Dina smirked.
"Well, since your mother was terrified so much, I should probably be here and comfort her, right, Honey?" "Oh yes, I would love that very much, Honey." The couple giggled and rubbed their noses against each other. Their kids let out cries of disgust and ran away. Helen and Dina only smiled triumphantly."Hey, I've just got an idea. Why don't we put two skeletons outside the door, and they're holding signs saying 'welcome' or something", said Dina. Helen chuckled. "I have two planks. Will those work for signs?" "They'll work perfectly." The couple ran to the basement, with Dina taking two plastic skeletons and Helen the wood planks. While she put the skeletons outside the door, he painted words onto the planks. Dina positioned the arms of the skeletons to make it appear as if they were holding something, because they were about to. Helen came out, and placed the planks on the skeletons' arms.
"Mommy? Daddy?" Mona came out from the door, holding a box of lights. "Can we hang this up?" As always, the two parents just couldn't say no to their daughter's pleading face. "I'll go get the ladder", said Helen, patting his Mona's head and walking into the house. The little did a little victory jump, before her mother took the box of lights. "Let's help Daddy by untangling these lights."Helen came out of the house again, with a ladder in tow, and Lisa behind him.
The ladder was set up, and the dark haired man stepped up onto it once his wife handed him the lights. "Kids, let's go get those creepy dolls you saw the other day." Mona shuddered at the memory of said doll, while Lisa was excited.
Helen watched as his family went back into the house and chuckled, wondering how he was lucky enough to end up with such a family. The girls came out with two rag dolls, and they were indeed creepy. The lights covered up the front of the roof, while there were still some loose ends big enough to fit a quarter of the sides. But that's not what the Otis family were going to do.
Helen took the one doll and tied the lights around it, while Dina did the same on the other side. "Okay girls, turn it on." Lisa inserted the plug, and Mona flipped the switch. The lights flickered to life, giving the house a bright, yet eerie look."The house looks great, but what say we have a break", said Dina. "Sounds like a plan", said Helen. He looked down at his kids. "Wanna watch a movie?" The twins nodded, and the family ran back into the house.
