Raphtalia rested peacefully on the bed, reading a book out loud to her swollen stomach that carried her child. Meanwhile, downstairs, Naofumi was sneaking out of a spare room their house just so happened to have. The shield hero walked up the stairs to his room where his wife was resting.
As he reached the door, he heard Raphtalia speaking to someone. He peeked into the room to see his demi-human bride reading a book. From the way she was using her voice tone to be a bit dramatic, Naofumi deduced that she was reading the story to his future child. He listened for a bit. There was no sound he enjoyed more than that of Raphtalia's voice, and no sight he loved more than her smile. Both were equally beautiful to him, as they came from a beautiful woman whom he was lucky enough to have married.

"The end", said Raphtalia, closing the book and placing it aside. "I can't wait until you're here. I want to see your face when I read to you", she said, rubbing her pregnant belly.
"Same here", said Naofumi as he walked into the room. Raphtalia looked at him and smiled. "You heard all that?" "Of course I did. I love listening to your voice." The man placed a kiss on his wife's cheek. "You comfortable already?" "I was planning on standing up now. Why?" "Perfect. I have a little present for you downstairs." The shield hero gently took his lover's hand and carefully lead her out of the bed. Next, they walked together down the stairs.
"Alright, I need you to close your eyes."
Raphtalia raised her eyebrow. "It's a surprise." The female demi-human shut her eyes, feeling her hand being taken by her husband and lead further. "Okay. Open them."

Raphtalia's eyelids rose and exposed her eyes to what Naofumi wanted to show her. It was a room with green walls. There was a rocking chair with presents they received from their friends earlier resting on it. There was soft looking stool that could also be used as a table. But the finishing touch was the crib in the corner of the room. Raphtalia's hands flew to her mouth. "Naofumi, is this... a nursery?" "What else could it be?", he asked.
She walked around the room like a child in a candy store. "It's beautiful!" Naofumi smiled to himself. He made his wife happy once again. The said woman then dropped on the stool, holding her stomach. "What is it?" "She kicked." The dark haired man ran over to the woman, crouching down in front of her and feeling her stomach. His eyes went wide when he felt another kick. "She's a feisty one. Just like her mom." "Hey, I'm not feisty." "This coming from the woman who hated being treated like a kid." "I wasn't acting feisty", mumbled Raphtalia, crossing her arms and puffing her cheeks. Naofumi made his way behind her and rested his arms beside her waists. "You're just too cute."

Raphtalia smiled and put her hand on his face, resting her head against his. "Just one more month, and then we'll finally be parents", she thought.
