Mikan sat on a bench, shifting a bit. It's not because the seat was uncomfortable, it was because she was nervous. Nervous for what, you ask? Well, not to break the fourth wall or anything, but the title of this story is why. She was waiting for her crush, Nagito Komaeda. Like all romances, it started out as a friendship, which started from the young man being a frequent visitor of the nurse's office. One would've sworn he hurt himself on purpose just to be in the nurse's office. People thought this because Mikan did have a reputation as one of the cutest girls in school.
The bushes were shaking, and a figure walked out. "Mikan! Here I am!" "N-Nagito?" "Sorry for the dramatic entrance, but I saw a four leafed clover and thought I'd pick one. They are symbols of luck after all." Luck. That was something Mikan would be having if Nagito were to reciprocate her feelings.
Nagito held out the clover to her. "Here. For good luck." "B-but you found it." "Yes, but I have enough luck as it is. I thought it might nice to share it with someone for a change." Mikan blushed and put the small green plant in her breast pocket. "Thank you."
Nagito sat back against the bench. "Mikan, can I tell you something? Something I've never told anyone?" Mikan, curious as to what her crush meant, nodded. "Some of the times when I visited you in the nurse's office... I hurt myself. On purpose." "Wh-what?!" "Sorry! It's not because I'm suicidal or anything, I just needed a way to get to you." "Nagito, you can talk to me anytime! You don't have to nearly kill yourself just to do that!" "Yeah, I know. It makes you do crazy things." "It?"
Nagito sat up straight. "Mikan, do you remember how I was when we first met?" "Yes. You were very hard on yourself, saying you were pathetic and such." "And have you ever heard me say such things again?" "No?" Nagito let out a chuckle. "That was because of you." Mikan was shocked.
"Whenever I spoke of my problems, you listened. You were actually willing to help me when no one else would, and I know it's probably because you're a nurse, but it still felt special. You made me feel special, Mikan. You made me feel important. You've given me a reason to live in this world."
Mikan was at a loss for words, and without thinking, lunged forward to place a deep kiss on Nagito's lips.
She pulled away, leaving him in shock. "I-I called you out here tonight to tell you how I feel. The truth is... I'm in love with you, Nagito." The luckster's heart started to beat at rapid speeds. "Wow. Looks like my luck kicked in again." "What?" "I was actually coming put here to tell you the same thing, Mikan. I'm in love with you too."
Tears of joy started to form in the nurse's eyes. Her new boyfriend wiped them away and gave her another kiss. "So, do you want to be my girlfriend?"
Mikan nodded. "Yes. I'd love to be your girlfriend."
Nagito held her close and let her snuggle close to him.
"I really am the luckiest man alive", he thought as he stared up at the night sky.
