Rumi held her umbrella while walking out in the rain from her job, feeling tired and just wanting to be home with her husband. As she walked, a sound caught her ear. It was the sound of a sneeze. But not a sneeze you would hear a human make, but one that came from a dog. She turned to the side to see a cardboard box that seemed to be shuffling. The rabbit hero walked closer, and lifted up the lid. Sure enough, there was a puppy in it. A corgi to be specific. The small dog turned its head and made eye contact with Rumi.
"What are you doing out here?" The animal jumped up against the box, wagging its tail. Unable to refuse its cuteness, Rumi picked it up. "A boy, huh? You got a home little guy?" She looked at the puppy's neck, seeing no collar. "Guess not."
She didn't know what to do. Her husband used to have a dog when he was a boy, but it didn't end well. So taking this dog home with her... would it be a good idea?Rumi hesitated a bit, then gave in. "I'm a hero. I help people. Even homeless puppies." She cradled the little canine in her arms and took it home with her.
. . .
Tenko held his controller in hand, eyes glued to the television screen as he played games. "Yes!", he cheered after winning a round. At the same time, the door opened and Rumi walked in. "Hey babe. Welcome home", greeted Tenko, then he heard a bark. He stood up and walked over to his wife. "What was that?" Rumi sighed. "Okay, don't get upset, but..." She turned around, showing the young corgi to Tenko.
He froze on the spot, his eyes widening. "I know that you don't have a pleasant history with pets, but he was all alone in the rain. I couldn't just leave him." Tenko looked at the dog, and thought back to his own one from back when he was just a child. When his quirk activated. When he went to give his pet a pat on the head. When the most traumatizing sight imaginable unfolded in front of his eyes."Look, we don't have to keep him. We could just keep him here for tonight, then take him to a shelter tomorrow." Rumi put the dog down on the floor, then it ran over to Tenko and jumped up against his leg. "Seems he like you." Tenko looked down at the puppy, resisting the urge to pet it. "I-I'll go set a bed up for it." Rumi watched in concern as her lover ran off to fulfill his task. She picked up the puppy. "Don't mind him. He's just... scared."
"Okay, I'm done", called Tenko. Rumi walked over to the room, seeing her husband has placed down an old pillow that was big enough for the dog to rest on. It ran over to it, and made itself comfortable. Meanwhile, Rumi gently hugged Tenko. "It's just for tonight, baby. They'll find him a better home at the animal shelter." "Yeah." The rabbit hero lead the former villain to bed. "Come. Let's go to sleep." The couple got dressed in sleepwear and crawled into bed, falling asleep.. . .
"Bye, little guy", said Rumi, scratching behind the little corgi's ear. Tenko was carrying him in a blanket, not wanting to touch the small animal with his bare hands. "See you later", he said, pecking his wife on the lips. "Later", she replied back as he walked out the door.
The young man placed the puppy in the passenger's seat, then climbed in to the driver's seat. "Let's go get you a place to live." The car sprung to life, pulling out of the driveway. It was a forty minute drive to the animal shelter, where along the way, Tenko couldn't help but find the corgi's curiosity of its new surroundings quite cute. "Alright. Here we are. Your new temporary home." The dog looked at the building, then back at Tenko. "Don't look at me like that." It tilted its head. "Look, it's not you, it's me. I just... can't trust myself around you. You could get hurt." The puppy didn't seem to be listening, and walked over to Tenko's lap. "What are you doing?" It rested on his lap, not appearing to have a single care in the world. Tenko's hands were in the air in panic, but they became tired and started lowering until one hand touched the puppy's back for the first time since the previous night. He couldn't fight back the smile that grew on his face. He scratched behind the dog's ear, receiving an enthusiastic little bark. "You like that, don't you?"
The former villain looked at the animal shelter, then back at the puppy. He finally decided what he was going to do.
. . .
"I'm home", said Rumi as she walked through the door. "Welcome back", greeted Tenko, who laughed afterwards. Rumi knew something was different, and it didn't help that she heard a bark. She walked into the room, and saw het husband playing with the puppy he was supposed to take away. "Tenko?" "Surprise", he said, lifting the little dog up from under its arms. "Didn't you... take it away?" Tenko looked down in guilt. "I couldn't." His mood then shifted to an excited child. "But can you blame me! Look at his adorable face! Please don't be mad."
Rumi couldn't hold it back anymore. She burst into a fit of laughter. "I'm not mad", she said after regaining her breath. "I'm just surprised you actually accepted the dog, considering..." "That was in the past, Rumi. I didn't know it was going to happen. But now, I can control my quirk. He doesn't have to get hurt." The female hero walked over to her husband and rubbed the dog's head. "If he's going to stay, he needs a name. Any ideas?" "Yeah. I was thinking Kojo." Rumi smiled at the dog. "Welcome to your new home, Kojo."
Tenko placed their new pet down on the floor, where it began to walk around. Rumi turned to her husband and gave him a kiss. "I'm proud of you, Tenko." He smiled and hugged her. "Thank you, Rumi."Kojo looked at his owners, and let out a bark of joy.
