Flames Consume The Heroes ~ Chapter 69

"AHAHAHA!!" Byleth then swung his sword at the heroes. They barely dodged it as Ike jumped into the air and slammed his sword against Shez. Shez was hit hard and fell onto the ground, he looked at himself and saw himself slowly getting covered in blood.

Alcryst yelled, "STAY BACK!" Shez looked up and saw how strangely confident Alcryst had gotten. While he was good at shooting arrows, he never had confidence this high.

"You want to be a winner now you demon!? ARAGH! ALL OF YOU ARE DEMONS NOW!" Byleth yelled.

Alcryst asked, "Oh instead of me being the villain, this time it's all of us!?" Byleth smiled at him and wrapped his sword around Alcryst. However, Kirby jumped in the way and slammed his sword in between the two. The sword stopped grabbing Alcryst as Byleth jumped back.

"Alright, let's see what we can do now..." Kirby whispered. However, the villains jumped in and started throwing Kirby around. "AHH!!" Alcryst got up and immediately shot an arrow at Ephraim. He fell back and Kirby was able to break free from their grips.

Rafal yawned, "Always the same shit all the time. Let's see how you handle THIS!" He launched himself into the air and slammed his axe on Kirby. Kirby was launched into the air and slammed onto the ground.

Kirby grunted, "Ow... what was that!?"

"Aww, you're scared now?!" Kirby looked up and saw the swirls in Rafal's eyes. Becoming afraid of even looking at the villains. "Of course you are..."

"HAH!!" Alcryst then shot an arrow at Rafal. Rafal fell forward and looked behind him. Byleth was about to whip him when Shez jumped in the way and slammed his blades against Byleth.

"ARAGH!" Byleth shouted. He fell backward and looked up in anger, he grabbed his sword and started spinning it around. The group got prepared to attack again; however, Marth couldn't help but not stay quiet. He had to help them.

Marth shouted, "HEROES!!" Byleth turned over immediately and spotted Marth standing there, he was shaking a ton. Becoming more and more afraid of the villains standing before him.

"Took you long enough to appear..." Byleth giggled as he swung his sword around. Marth slowly got himself prepared to attack again when all of a sudden Kirby shot out a beam from a ray gun. Byleth fell backward and looked up toward Kirby.

Kirby yelled, "IT'S NOT SAFE HERE MARTH! YOU NEED TO GET OUT OF HERE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!"

"THIS ENTIRE SITUATION IS MY FAULT! I HAVE TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS!!" Marth looked toward Byleth as he got prepared to wrap his sword around him. Marth got ready to attack when Eirika struck him from behind.

Shez grunted, "DAMN IT!" He dashed over and slammed his sword against Eirika. Marth looked over and spotted Byleth smiling down at him. However, Alcryst jumped in the way and shot his arrows at Byleth. Byleth fell onto the ground and looked behind him where the flames were burning.

Byleth laughed, "Since this pathetic little town is half on fire... why don't I put the entire thing on fire?!" Then Byleth jumped backward and took out gasoline and a lighter. The villains smiled at him as the heroes began to panic.

Alcryst yelled, "IF WE DON'T DO ANYTHING THE ENTIRE TOWN IS GOING TO BE IN FLAMES!!" Shez looked over and then dashed toward Byleth. Alcryst started shooting as many arrows as possible. However, he still felt like it wasn't enough.

"COME ON!!!" Shez yelled. He launched into the air and slammed his blades against Byleth. Byleth slammed onto the ground and saw blood on his clothing. The jar of gasoline fell down as Alcryst dashed over to grab it. However, Rafal managed to grab it before he did. Kirby jumped in and attacked Rafal with his sword.

Rafal laughed, "Go ahead and keep trying! You will never be able to get the gasoline out of my hands..." Kirby glared at him and then shoved him onto the ground. Marth managed to grab the gasoline jar but in the process the villains started to gain up on him.

Marth yelled, "YOU GUYS! OPEN YOUR EYES! IT'S ME, MARTH!" The villains didn't say anything. They dashed at Marth as he got prepared to fight. "Damn... you guys are really planning to kill me here?"

"We always have been..." Ike laughed. Marth stared at him and looked down at himself. He took a deep breath and looked at the heroes.

"MARTH WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?" Shez asked. He shoved Byleth onto the ground again and dashed over. Marth looked at him and smiled. "MARTH?!!" Marth took a deep breath and poured the gasoline on himself.

Byleth shouted, "NOOOO!!!!! MY MASTER PLAN!!!" The heroes looked at one another in horror as Marth then took out a match.

"MARTH NO! GET YOUR HANDS OFF THE MATCH!!" Alcryst screamed. The heroes were becoming more and more afraid of what was going to happen. Marth looked at the heroes and smiled.

Marth whispered, "Please... protect the scrolls for me." He looked at the match, lit it up, and tossed it into the air.

"MARTHHH!!!"

"NOOOOO!!!" Everyone there watched as Marth had... set himself on fire.

Shez muttered, "Marth..." Marth collapsed onto the ground as the flames continued engulfing him. Even the villains were shocked to watch.

"NOOOOOO!!" Kirby yelled, tears streaming down from his eyes. The heroes stood there staring, he did that just to save the town from being burnt?

Byleth muttered, "Let's get out of here then..." Then the villains vanished from the scene. The flames were put out and all there was was the burnt corpse of Marth. The heroes were speechless. Nothing was able to come out of their mouths.

"Marth..." Alcryst whispered. Shez put his swords away, they just couldn't comprehend what was happening, Marth had burned himself alive. The heroes looked around the town and back down at Marth.

Kirby whispered, "He... did that just to protect the town..."

"I... I..." Alcryst felt the words choking up in his throat. Soon he began to cry, the heroes comforted him as they also began to cry. There was only silence in the area, the disbelief of losing someone they barely got to know. The pain of losing someone they wish to learn more about.

Shez muttered, "Whatever the hell is going on... we will destroy what's corrupting Byleth. We WILL!" The heroes nodded in agreement as they all took a deep breath. They stood up and then dealt with the corpse. They didn't say a word, they saw too much already. It was just... all too familiar.

"Going out that way... what was he thinking?"

"He wanted to get rid of the gasoline, but... he didn't need to set himself on fire?!" Shez replied.

Kirby sighed, "He probably felt guilt about what he did... he couldn't bear the thought of being a villain. He couldn't take it I suppose..." The heroes looked at one another and then took a deep breath. They wanted to deal with the flames in the town next, and maybe find out news of any of the kingdoms left.
