"AHAHAAHAH!!!!!" Byleth laughed. Rafal slowly walked out of his room and saw Byleth casting multiple spells at once. Swirls were in his eyes as they always were; however, now a purple aura was following around him.
Rafal asked, "What are you doing?! It's so early in the morning and just a few hours ago you were laughing hysterically!"
"Since we have the scrolls and can FINALLY focus on getting the crown! I know you and I both yearned to get our precious little hands on those crowns..." Byleth explained. Rafal stared at him and Byleth smiled at him. "And yes... I am saving Beth for that sacrifice. She is family, the Netherworld Gods would love her..."
Rafal grabbed Byleth's shoulders and said, "Byleth, are you even certain you want that damn crown!? You are acting like you want to make sure that everyone is dead! You no longer want the crown! You want ONLY STRENGTH-"
"ARE YOU OPPOSING ME!? IS DEATH REALLY SOMETHING YOU WANT!?" Byleth asked as he grabbed Rafal's shirt. Rafal stared at him with worry but soon Byleth shoved him onto the ground.
Rafal grunted, "I..."
"Don't speak, I know you're afraid of me... you're so afraid of me in fact it wouldn't matter if you were to die now would you!?" Byleth threatened. Rafal didn't say anything. Byleth took a deep breath and took out the book of the scriptor. "Should I use this against the heroes so they would leave us alone?"
Rafal groaned, "You do what you believe is the best..."
"THEN I SHOULD USE IT! IT'S SO PERFECT AHAHAHAH!" Byleth laughed. Rafal took a deep breath and looked over toward the window. He looked out as Byleth followed after him. "I want to make sure that I destroy the heroes... those monsters... following the steps of the demons."
Rafal mumbled, "You do realize Alcryst isn't a demon right?"
"He may not be a demon but he is something that is going to stand in my way... I WILL KILL HIM!" Byleth yelled. "He has to be something! There's no reason why he's always standing in my way!"
Rafal sighed, "Alright, just do what you want to do." Byleth smiled at him as he put the book away. Byleth walked on ahead and smiled at the sky.
"Daytime is awaiting us, I can't wait to get my hands on the Crown of Zerus and become the RULER OF DAWN!!!" Byleth exclaimed. He looked down at himself and smiled once more. He was so excited to get his hands on the crown. "The heroes are too dumb to try to stop me. They wouldn't even try it at all..."
Rafal sighed, "Are we certain you're even up for the task?"
"I don't see why I wouldn't..." Byleth giggled. Then he sent out a spell. The spell slowly started absorbing the energy in the air. It was a lot for him to contain but he was doing all he could, making sure he could find a way to gain as much energy and power as possible in order to destroy the heroes.
Rafal asked, "W-What the hell is going on here?!" Byleth smiled at Rafal and then placed the energy he stole into his book. The book was only getting stronger and stronger the more energy Byleth had.
"I'm becoming unstoppable, soon the world will BOW DOWN to me!" Byleth laughed. Rafal looked at him and looked at the sunrise. "AHAHAAHAH!"
...
There was something sparking up in the middle of town. A fire spell was casted during the early morning and it started to get worse... and worse... it was only going to get worse. The flames immediately exploded, engulfing the entire town in flames.
"I don't understand... why are you doing this?" Chrom asked. Byleth looked over and smiled. He was wearing something on his head, the truth was it was... the crown of Zerus.
Byleth asked, "Have you wanted something for so long? Power... that's all I wanted. I wanted POWER!"
"Byleth..."
"LEAVE ME ALONE! YOU KNOW NOTHING OF WHAT I WANT! I ONLY WANTED TO BE PERFECT!!" Chrom stared at him as the flames continued to eat the town alive. Soon after he took a deep breath. "Go ahead, shut up and let me do what I want."
Chrom muttered, "But..."
"SILENCE!!"
"BYLETH!!!" Chrom got up and realized it was only a nightmare. He heard a knock on the door and he went to answer the door. It was Kirby, smiling up at him.
Kirby said, "I heard you scream and thought to react. How are you?"
"I am not doing so well, I just had a nightmare of Byleth... he had set the entire town on fire. I was unable to get to him... he was just..." Chrom shook his head and then looked down at himself. It left him so unsettled.
His nightmares have always been signs, he was becoming more afraid. Ever since the events of the war, his future abilities had granted him the chance to look beyond the present. Even within nightmares, becoming afraid of the future. His nightmares had only Byleth and some place being set on fire. More and more flames, Byleth going insane, it was all the same.
Kirby asked, "Chrom?"
"I'm fine, I'll get ready now since there's no point in trying to sleep when the sun is coming up," Chrom replied. Kirby nodded as Chrom slowly shut the door, he looked down at himself. "Byleth... why did you go down this path? You wanted to be perfect when you already were... deep down inside I know you're still in there. How could anyone save you?"
He sat on his bed in silence, thinking about his best friend. The one that was lost to insanity, he thought about it often. He was unable to do much, Byleth was losing himself. Forgetting who he was. Chrom then put his head into his knees, he wanted one thing back. Byleth...
Nothing more, he didn't care anymore about the scrolls. He just wanted his best friend back from the suffering he was going through. Where was Byleth, where exactly was he?
