Several days have passed since Byleth returned back to normal. The heroes were all cheerful with one another as each of them got themselves prepared for the ceremony. Most of them were trying to stay cheerful but they all knew that they were going to pay respects to their fallen Team Leader.
Byleth looked around the area and saw Sonic getting himself ready. Most of the heroes were dressed in black for the occasion. Byleth walked over to Sonic and took a deep breath. "Mario has been safely buried where he belongs, right?" Sonic nodded as he fixed his tie.
Sonic explained, "We were... unfortunately unable to recover his body. We are unsure what Zethus did to him.." Byleth looked down at himself and took a deep breath. Then Sonic lit up a torch. The heroes looked over and walked over. "Alright, come along heroes."
Celica sighed, "Alright, let's get going." The heroes walked over to the graveyard, the torches burned softly through the summer night. The heroes all made it to Mario's grave as they all held hands with each other.
"Today, we're gathered together to honor Mario. He was unexpectedly killed by Zethus as he continued to attempt to bring Dawn to ruin. That plan failed but together, we're here to remember what Mario did for us. If you get the candle, you say something to honor our fallen leader," Sonic sighed. Then he took a deep breath and passed the torch to Kirby.
Kirby sighed, "Dear Mario, you were a wonderful team leader. Trying to give us hope during the roughest of times, I always loved you as a friend. Wishing you're resting well..." Then he passed the torch to Chrom.
"Mario, you were a very respectful Team Leader, despite everything I have done. Despite everything that's happened, thank you for standing tall alongside all of us. Truly Mario, you are going to be in our hearts forever," Chrom sighed as he passed the torch to Link.
Each of the heroes had their turns, sharing words to Mario. However, Byleth was at the end of the line, he didn't want to be so close to the beginning of the line. He knew he just had too much to say to Mario. Then Celica passed the torch to Byleth. Byleth looked at his grave and took a deep breath.
Byleth sighed, "Mario... I know how it probably hurts to hear me but... I am so dearly sorry for everything Zethus has done to you. He has ruined me, he has ruined you... he has ruined everything... I don't know what else to say or do. I'm so terribly sorry about everything I've done. I did so much to hurt you.
I truly am such a terrible person, but I also know deep down inside that Zethus commanded me to do all these horrible things. I wish I could revert everything and have you alive with us. But not everything is colorful. Thank you for all the amazing things you have done Mario. You were an amazing friend and team leader." Then he took a deep breath and blew the torch out. The heroes all stood there in silence.
The sounds of the crickets chirping were loud, they gave Mario a moment of silence. They all knew he was still with them in their hearts but... it was still strange without Mario. He was a team leader, someone they couldn't forget. They all took a deep breath and they all went back to the town. Following the same softly lit pathway of light.
Byleth thought, "Mario's gone now, the heroes are all together. I just... don't feel right. Now, we're going to select the new leader of the team. We all voted anonymously, I wonder who that will be. I'm sure they're going to be an amazing leader." The heroes came back to the town and together they went back to their mansion to get ready for the selection.
Byleth had cleaned his room out and got rid of the mirror for good. He changed into his uniform he wore during Chrom's wedding as he didn't have anything else. He took a deep breath and fixed his tie. He walked out to the front yard and walked over to the area where the heroes were. Most of them were talking with each other, being cheerful as always.
