Hi friends :D
Don't we just love when a character intro here is me giving them emotional damage? I'm not gonna lie, I kinda went a little, shall we say "extra" with that when it came to her backstory (cue the allegations that I can't write siblings without hurting them /j). But that aside, here's my intro of my most recent character, Suisen Harukawa :D
My goal for this was to really show all the complicated emotions she still feels over what she did—she still has a lot of deep shame and guilt over it, but on the other hand it was her only choice, or at least that's what she tries to tell herself. Still, she can't help but seek forgiveness.
And now that I've once again inflicted emotional damage (sorry for the whiplash, I'm very bad at segues), the artistic process for this was honestly 50/50–surprisingly I actually struggled with the hair more than the face, which is like a complete 180 of what usually ends up happening- I actually ended up having to redo the hair cause I did that thing I do where I make it wavier/curlier in future drawings XD
I think I struck a good balance though, thankfully! :3
Also fun fact, the dialogue and tears were a last minute addition, but I really think they add to the piece! Also, I did kinda struggle with where I wanted the dialogue to go—usually I do it at the bottom center but I didn't like the way it blocked her clothes and hair, so I decided to try something a little different and fill in some of the empty space. I think it kinda works though :0
And finally, it's time for a taisho secret!
While Suisen keeps her singing voice a secret, she has a special ritual where she visits the pond on moonlit nights and sings lullabies for her brother—sources say it makes her feel much calmer after she's done.
