Zak and I head inside and find ourselves in the gift shop surrounded by Ned Kelly memorabilia. I point, giggle and roll my eyes at the bobble head figure, Zak tries to remain professional but a smirk plays across his lips before he scowls and hushes me. We make our way to the reception desk,
"Hi,I'm Zak, this is Tracy, we're here to see Mark." He tells the woman at the desk and she excuses herself to fetch the curator who is elsewhere.
"So are you excited?" Zak asks me while we wait.
"Yeah! So excited!" I enthuse, bouncing on my toes with nervous energy, "I am a tad nervous too though." I admit acknowledging the ever present fluttering in my belly.
"Well that's natural but don't worry I know you're going to be great," He reassures me. "Do let us know if you feel anything though, especially anything that feels bad or uncomfortable ok?"
"Ok."I agree thinking that doesn't help my nerves at all! "Promise?"He asks me again seriously.
"I promise." I try to suppress the nervous giggle that is threatening to escape my lips just as Mark arrives to greet us.
Zak introduces us again and asks whether he can take us on a quick tour before we do the filmed run through. Aaron tags along while Billy and Jay continue to set up their spaghetti of wires and array of recorders and equipment. We wander around the gaol and attached courthouse with Mark pointing out areas of interest and explaining the history. Zak makes some notes and Aaron marks some areas to return to later as we go, 20 minutes later we are back at the gift shop.
"Ok Mark is just going to get the two tour guides we are going to interview, Billy and Jay are adjusting the lights inside, Aaron, Tracy come with me and we'll film your intro while we wait." Zak orders and Aaron rolls his eyes at the bossy tone.
Zak, Aaron and I head outside and stand in front of the formidable iron gates.
"This is perfect! So Tracy you stand there, we'll start over here and come over to you ok?" He directs and I nod, overcome with nerves. "Don't worry I'll be doing most of the talking and explaining who you are, where we are and all the usual stuff you just need to say hi and answer a couple of questions. That cool?" He checks, I nod again.
"Yeah that cool." I smile at how serious he is about his work.
"Ok lets roll!" And Zak and Aaron begin with the usual introduction and a little history on Melbourne Gaol.
"This special series of lockdowns here in vast and historical Australia will be slightly different," Zak tells the camera. "We are going to have a very special guest joining our team whilst we are here and at all of our Australian locations. This is Tracy Fox our guest investigator. Tracy is a seasoned sensitive and we look forward to getting a new perspective on our investigations. So welcome Tracy, thank you for joining us." Zak gestures towards me and Aaron swings the camera in my direction.
"Thanks for having me, this is all very exciting." I say and Aaron grins and gives me a thumbs up.
"So Tracy, can you tell us a little about your experiences." Zak asks and I briefly explain that up until now I hadn't hunted professionally but detailed a few of my past experiences. Zak continued to explain that in their professional opinion I attracted energies and in addition this would be a kind of experiment as they hoped that having a female on the crew would bring a whole new element to the investigations and wrapped up the piece to the camera.
"That was great Tracy!" Zak smiled.
"Yep, you're a natural. Aaron agreed.
"Well that's a relief!" I exclaim and shake myself down to dissipate some of the nervous energy that has built up in my muscles. Zak reaches out and puts his arm around me to give me a quick hug as we head inside. 'Hmmm, I could get used to this.' I think to myself and try not to think about him leaving in less than four weeks.
