After a while Billy was yawning and Jay had even nodded off briefly and decided to go back to the hotel as jet lag got the better of them and they had their wives to call. Zak and Aaron chose to stay and eventually as you would expect the talk turned to spirits.
"So how long have you been sensitive to this stuff, Tracy?" Aaron asks me as he sips his gin.
"Honestly I never really thought about it properly until I wrote you that email." I pondered. "But I guess I was pretty young when it started. I've been aware of the possibility of ghosts for as long as I can remember and it's always intrigued me but the first real experience I can remember is when I was about 10 or 11 when a friend and I had a bottle cap thrown at us in the school bathroom. I'd always felt nervous in that part of the school. It just didn't feel right." I thought for a second. "Oh yeah, when I was 14 my uncle passed, we were close and I inherited his stereo. No word of a lie I could get the volume on that stereo to change just by thinking about it, which sounds bat shit crazy I know!"
"Woah! That is freaky dude!" Aaron agreed, his eyes wide."Ummm what else? Oh yeah divination by pendulum, dabbled with that a little and it always seemed to work and was fairly accurate, same with the tarot. I never properly pursued it though as none of my friends were into the weird shit like I was!" I laughed. "Then when I was 17 my mum passed from cancer and my world was turned upside down, that's when I really wanted to experience something." I felt my eyes brimming with tears and tried to swallow them down and took a deep breath, Zak lent towards me a rubbed my back comfortingly.
"I'm so sorry sweetie, I can't imagine." He said softly with sadness clouding his beautiful eyes. I gave him a small watery smile and continued.
"A year later a friend of mine was killed in a horrible road accident, it was then that the dreams started. I would dream that our group of friends would be out around town and he would be there really distressed asking me why no one could see him. I started dreaming about my mum too, thankfully she would always be happy. Those dreams died off over the years but as I said in my email strange things seem to follow me. Strange coincidences will happen, certain numbers will appear wherever I go, I've had a couple of possible poltergeist occurrences, I've felt phantom taps on my shoulder and often see shadows. More recently I've seen 2 full shadow figures and heard a phantom dog and strange knockings and get strange feelings or reactions to seemingly benign things." I shrugged, "that's it really. I've thought about it and a lot of it can have logical, scientific explanations but the fact that there is so much of it that I have experienced I can't help but believe there's something more to it, something supernatural that I don't even begin to understand."
Zak and Aaron just stare at me for a moment and then at each other, I can't fathom what's going through their minds, they probably think I'm a nut job.
"What?"I ask, getting paranoid.
"Tracy, that's not just a possibility, I would bet that you are a natural sensitive to the paranormal and that the energy might even be drawn to you. I'd go as far as to say you have some psychic ability too."Zak tells me.
"I'm not entirely convinced." I admit, "And I'm not entirely comfortable with the possibility if I'm honest.I mean I like weird, but then there's weird weird! This is gonna take a bit of getting used to.""We'll spend time with you so you can learn to protect yourself and recognise the signs, it does take a while to get used to it, not that you ever get completely comfortable with it!" Zak tries to reassure me but could tell that I was still not quite believing what he was saying himself.
"Hey we didn't mean to worry you! We'll look after you on the lockdowns and keep you safe." He put his arm around my shoulder and gave me a gentle squeeze. I smiled but couldn't help but wonder what will happen when they go back to America.
