I froze as he stormed out leaving the house.
Mum: imarni?
I came out of my daydream looking at my mum who was stood infront of me.
Me: yeah?
Mum: what was that about?
Me: nothing.
Mum: I've never heard Ty speak to you like that so one of you needs to tell me what's up.
Me: I really don't want to talk about it right now mum.
She looked at me for a few seconds then nodded.
Mum: talk to me when you're ready.
I still stood frozen after she left the room. I feel like Tyree is purposely trying to start arguements with me just so he can storm out. This is the third time he's done this since we broke up. But at the same time, maybe he's right, I have been drinking a lot more lately maybe I am moving on too soon.
I jumped out of my daydream again as my phone went off.
Me: hi what's up?
Jamal: I'm outside open up.
I hung up the phone going to open the front door. I couldn't help the grin that formed on my face, all I could see was a bunch of balloons a bouquet of flowers and a massive teddy bear.
Me: Jamal!
Jamal: happy birthday again.
I hugged him taking the flowers as he put the teddy to the side.
Me: you didn't have to do all of this.
Jamal: I wanted to.
I grabbed his hand leading the way to my room just incase Tyree decided to come back.
Jamal: how are you feeling?
Me: much better now.
Jamal: good.
Me: I'm sorry I had to cancel our plans tonight.
Jamal: it's all good. I'll see you back at uni later anyway.
I nodded grinning again as I took the teddy out of his arms, it was almost as big as me.
Me: I love it.
Jamal: I have one last suprise for you. Close your eyes.
Me: what is it?
Jamal: close your eyes first.
I did as he said trying my hardest not to peek until I felt something cold on my chest.
Me: a necklace?
As soon as he clipped it on at the back he hugged me from behind stopping me from going to the mirror to look.
Jamal: before you look at it. Just know you don't have to wear it if you don't want to. I know we're not official yet but if I play my cards right you will soon be mine.
I looked at him confused as I slowly walked over to the mirror. I can't lie I love the necklace it was beautiful. It had the letter J hanging down the middle.
Me: I'm guessing the J is for Jesus?
He grinned at me pulling me towards him.
Jamal: oh you got jokes?
Me: I'm joking... I love it.
I held onto his face as I kissed him.
Of course the thought of Tyree seeing this necklace was eating at the back of my mind but we're no longer together so I shouldn't care.
Jamal: let me take a picture of you.
I grinned posing with the gifts that he bought me. How can one person make me so happy?

I'm currently sitting at the restaurant table having a debate with myself whether I should take this necklace that Jamal gave me off or leave it on even though I know it will attract attention soon enough. My mum for some unknown reason convinced Tyree to come to my family birthday meal. I haven't spoken to him since our argument and he's been ignoring my existence all night making the night drag.
Jeremiah: what's up marni?
Me: nothing I'm good.
Jeremiah: are you sure?
I nodded playing with my food since I no longer wanted it. I just want to go back to uni and relax with Jamal, is that bad?
Romae: I like your necklace, it's icey. Did you get that today?
I slowly nodded forcing a smile as Tyree decided to have a look. Why does romae have such a big mouth?
Tyree: imarni come outside... Noo
My heart beat increased by 1000% as he got up from the table walking out of the restaurant.
Jeremiah: who got you it?
Me: I bought it myself.
Jeremiah: so what's the J for?
Romae: Jeremiah
I rolled my eyes as romae started laughing.
Me: it's not funny. Why would you say that infront of him.
I threw a piece of my pasta off my plate at him since he was still laughing. On the other hand my brother Jeremiah didn't find it as amusing.
Jeremiah: you deserve whatever is coming to you, why would you wear that tonight knowing he was coming?
Me: he told me he wasn't coming.
Jeremiah: he's part of the family what the fuck do you expect?
I kissed my teeth going outside to where Tyree was standing looking very pissed off.
Me: Tyree what do you want?
Tyree: take it off.
Me: no.
Tyree: why do you think that shit is okay?
Me: I haven't done anything to you.
Tyree: it's either you take it off or I will.
Me: no.
I tried to walk back into the restaurant until he pulled me back by my arm closer to him.
Tyree: we was just fucking less than 2 weeks ago why do you think it's okay for you to be wearing some other guys name on your chest especially when you only met him less than 6 months ago.
Me: clearly the length of time you know somebody doesn't mean anything anymore.
Tyree: are you with him now?
Me: no I'm not.
Tyree: so why are you playing games with my mind. Take it off.
Me: Tyree I don't need to take it off. I'm single. I can wear what I want.
I stood leaning against the wall as he slowly nodded then walked off out of sight.
Romae: is everything okay out here?
Me: why would you bring up the necklace? You knew this would happen?
Romae: where is he?
Me: he's stormed off because I told him I'm not taking it off.
Romae: fuck. I didn't think he would react like this.
Me: you know exactly how he is.
Romae: I'm sorry.
Me: I just wanna go home.
He pulled me into a hug rocking us from side to side.
Romae: I didn't think it would be such a big thing. Did Jamal get you that necklace?
Me: yes.
Romae: don't worry about it. I'll talk to Tyree and get it sorted out.
Me: am I in the wrong?
Romae: marni I said don't worry about it. I'll sort it out.
