Dragonball: Unforgotten
Chapter Twenty-four

A few days before the tournament...

Goku smiled as he stretched. He had finally finished training with Kami! And the tournament was coming soon. Which was odd. Goku could have sworn there was more time. Oh well. Kami knew what he was doing and Goku trusted the guardian of Earth. Now he just had a couple of days to relax and make his way to the tournament. He was so excited! He couldn't wait to see everyone there.

As he started to leave the lookout tower, Goku was stopped by Kami. The wizened old man had a large box in his hands, meticulously tied off with a cord. Goku looked at him with a curious expression.

"Hey, what's that?"

"These are a few things that I want you to keep safe. I've preserved them but I want you to keep them at your house with you Goku. Can you do that?"

"Uh, sure Kami," Goku said, befuddled at the odd request.

Kami handed him the box. To Goku the weight was nothing but for some reason it felt heavy. Like he'd just been given a great task that he didn't know how to complete. Which was silly to him. It was just a bunch of things.

"What's in here?"

"Just some personal items Goku. I want you to promise me to take care of everything in that box. You won't understand, and you might not understand for a while, but everything in there is important. So I task you with keeping everything safe. Can you do that?"

"Sure Kami! I'll keep it safe at Gramp's House. I promise I won't let anything happen to anything in this box. You can count on me."

Kami nodded. "Remember. Promises are important. You have to keep them no matter what."

Goku smiled and nodded.

Later that night, after staring at the box at all hours, Goku cracked. He reasoned that he couldn't protect what was inside of the box unless he knew what it was he was protecting. Inside he found a few different items. Like a hairbrush, a jar of vitamins, a soft red rope, some girl underwear, something that kind of looked like a shirt with no sleeves to him, two letters, a capsule he didn't dare activate, and a dress.

Goku tilted his head in confusion as he looked at everything. Kami was such an odd man.

Gingerly he opened the letter with his name on it. Normally he didn't like reading but he was too curious what was written on the folded piece of paper. The handwriting was hard to read so it didn't make it easy. It was like someone was writing this when they were having troubles holding onto the pen or something.

Goku,

I'm sorry I couldn't stay. I tried to wait for you. But please know that it's not your fault. Don't beat yourself up about what happened. I will never blame you. Not in this lifetime or the next. And if you can't bring me back, I understand. If I can find a way back, I will be back as soon as I can. I promise. And remember - a promise is meant to be kept forever.

Please know that I love you and I will love you no matter what.

That was the end of the letter. There wasn't a name on it or anything. Goku tilted it many times to try and see if there was a trick to it that he had t figured out. But there was nothing else. He really didn't get it. Goku was more confused than ever as he put the letter back and went through the other things again. Nothing made sense to him.

What he found most interesting was the fact that everything just smelled really nice. Especially the cloths and the hairbrush. Goku brought the dress up to his face and smiled. But it was the strange top that smelled the best (the panties having been washed before he preserved it because Kami wasn't that kind of weird). With reluctance and a surprisingly heavy heart that he didn't understand, Goku put everything back away into the box. And he put the box into the safest spot he could so that he could keep his promise to Kami. After all a promise was meant to be kept forever.

As time went on...

Goku competed in the martial arts tournament. In doing so he gained place as a champion and gained a wife because of a promise he made as a child. Turned out marriage wasn't a type of food. Go figure.

The ox king build him and Chichi, his new wife, a house to live in. Goku didn't mind. Chichi didn't like his Grandpa's house very much anyways. And she kept trying to go through the box that Kami told him to keep safe every time he wasn't looking! He figured at least with her own house she didn't try as much.

It took them a while to consummate their marriage. Goku had no idea what Chichi really wanted when she told him she wanted to have a baby. And many times when she tried he just laid there with his pants down, watching her curiously as she touched his boy part. It took them six months to finally come together for the first time, at the right time too. And considering the fact that Chichi hadn't thought to warn him...well once his body was triggered and she was underneath him, Goku wasn't very gentle. Chichi barely talked to him for the majority of her pregnancy. He wasn't even allowed to sleep in the same bed while she was pregnant because she was afraid he'd hurt the baby.

But that was okay with him. After seeing what he'd done to Chichi when he couldn't hold back, Goku had been afraid he'd hurt her and the baby too. Besides he liked sleeping in his old bed. He got to curl up with the good smelling clothes then.

When his son was born, Chichi insisted they name him Einstein. Or other weird names that Goku had never heard of. When the child seemed to cry or refused to respond to all of the ones that she picked out, Goku told her that it was because they all sounded weird. And she had then challenged him to come up with one (in so many words). The only name that he could think of wanting to name the wiggling mess in his wife's arms was Gohan. The name stuck.

And on the one day that Goku had been allowed to watch Gohan, Chichi snuck into his grandpa's small house and went through the box he'd been guarding. When he saw her wearing the dress, which was too large for her really, that was about the only time he'd ever truly been angers with her. He didn't even know why he'd really been angry. Just that, in that moment, he wanted to rip her out of the dress and throw her out. But since he was holding Gohan, Goku held back from that violence. Chichi had seen it in his eyes though, and everything in that box became a secret that neither of them talked about.

Time passed and Gohan got old enough to walk and talk. Goku watched him from the sidelines as much as he could. But Chichi barely seemed to want to him do anything with the boy. So he just stayed to make sure that they were safe and when Chichi needed firewood or something like that, Goku got it for her.

Then he had finally convinced her to let him take Gohan to see his old friends. It had been years after the boy was born. And he tried to take her too but she hadn't wanted to go with him on his cloud. She didn't like flying. So Goku took a Gohan to Kame house for a reunion...and that's where all his and Gohan's adventures began.
