My eyes open, and confusion hit me first before I realize what happened yesterday. I stare up at the ceiling as the loud alarm banged in my mind before I snooze it.
"Get up! Get up!" Ms. Gomez said. Her voice roamed in the room.
I groan and sit up on the bed. She stood on the doorway with one hand on her waist. "Young lady, it's time to wake up," she says. "Breakfast is at eight."
I sigh and remove the sheets off of me. I climb out of bed and walk into the room. I wash my face and yawn lightly.
I exit the bathroom and walk into the kitchen where Ms. Gomez, Selena, was scooping mini sausages on a plate. She set it in the middle of the dining table along with the waffles, syrup bottle, and biscuits. Two plates were set across from each other with a cup of milk in the side.
"Is this your daily routine?" I ask.
She nods her head as she sits down on the side farthest from me. She gestures her hand for me to take the empty chair in front of her. "Sit," she says.
I sit down and look at the food. My nose instantly smells a mixture of the food, and I cover my mouth. It's been a while since I had anything new to eat. It's always been almost the same dish everyday.
"So, what is happening today, Ms—Selena?" I stutter. "Sorry, I just am use to calling you Ms. Gomez."
"I get that a lot," she says. "We are going to get you a job. I called my friend Val, and he set up an audition for you today. It's a small role, but I think you are more than capable of owning this character."
"What's the role?" I ask.
"Yolanda, a host with some attitude," she says. "She's a diva and pretty humorous. I think you'll do her justice."
I shrug, hesitant. She cocks her head and says, "Ally, give this role a chance. I know it's no Juliet, but it's equally as good. Maybe even better."
"No, I don't think I am capable of acting all that," I said. "Not when I'm feeling this sad."
"Ally, you need to get your mind in the picture," Selena says. "It's more than just a role. It could be your future. Someone is going to see potential in you like I do." I nod my head and hesitantly agreed to check the role out.
After we finish eating, I washed the dishes while Selena got change. I lose my mind in thought. I was nervous and anxious. I didn't even know what I am going into. Who was this Yolanda? I needed something more, and something that would inspire me in this short amount of time.
Minutes later, Selena and I stood in front of the door. We slide our purses on our shoulders, and she flips her hair. I tied my hair back into a ponytail.
"You got everything?" she asks.
I nod my head, and we exit the apartment. We took the elevator and got on the first floor. We walk through the lobby, and I wave at the people behind the counter, telling them to have a good day.
Selena and I walk to her car parked on the third lane from the right. As we settle down, we buckled up, and she inserted the key into the ignition. Once I hear the engine running, my eyes stare at the radio, hearing the beautiful tune of Dancing with a Stranger. Chills run down my spine, remembering the time Liam and I sing to the song on our last date before the trip. It felt like that was yesterday.
"Is the music bothering you?" Selena asks.
My eyes didn't disconnect from the radio. I shake my head. "No, the music is fine," I said. I blink a couple times and smile. I raise my eyes and meet her beautiful ones. "It's beautiful."
