A week passed, and I begin moving into the office. There's been no news from Ally yet. And I was beginning to worry about us. She should have received my letter by now unless something happened to her. I wished nothing did.
I carry a box inside the office and set it on the desk. I pick up a picture frame of me and my grandmother when I was ten years old. It was birthday picture. I remember she bought my very first game controller that day, even when my parents forbade her to.
I set the frame back and begin to unload the box. I set up some pens and pencils in a cup. I pick up a picture frame of Ally and me. It was a picture during Christmas. Ally held the tray of cookies in her hand while my hands rested on her waist. A smile forms on my lips as I revisited that memory. I miss holding her so much.
After the moment, I set the picture frame of Ally and me on the center edge of the desk.
Suddenly, I hear a knock on the door. I lift my eyes and see Rita standing in he doorway. "Can I come in?" she asks. I nod my head, and she enters. "So, you liking it? Having your own office?"
"I guess," I answer.
She walks up to my desk and sets her hands on the table. "You don't look like it. Come on, it can't be that bad. It's quiet. Peaceful. A little cozy." Her eyes flirt, and I roll my eyes.
"Rita, I already told you to move on," I said.
"That doesn't mean that I will," she says. "I still love you. Why don't you love me?"
"You should already know," I respond.
Her eyes dart to my desk, and she swipes the frame of Ally and me and holds it firmly in her hand. "Is this her?" Rita asks, glaring at the picture.
I reach my hand over and try to grab it from her grasps, but she pushes herself back. "Answer me," she says. "Is this the reason why you don't love me?"
"Don't be dramatic," I tell her.
"Then answer me," she says, loosening her hand on the frame.
My eyes widen in fear that she will drop it. "Rita, give it to me," I said. She shakes her head and threatens me with her eyes. I sigh and nod my head. "Yes that is her. Her name is Ally, and she is really sweet."
"Sweet?" She questions, looking at Ally's face carefully. "Yeah, she must a sweet slut. Look at her and the necklace she has on. Some other dude must have given that to her."
"Shut up," I tell her. She jumps a little at my words. "I bought her that necklace. And you have no right to call her a slut. Give me the frame."
"Liam, I know that you're brainwashed by her beauty, but don't be a fool," she begins talking nonsense. "Once she is gone and out of the picture, you will forget all about her and realize that I'm your everlasting love." She waves the frame in the air, and I stand on my toes.
"Rita, give me that, please," I plead, gritting the words through my teeth.
Her nostrils flare. She speaks, ignoring my words, "Liam, you just need someone to help you remove her from your life." Abruptly, she tosses the frame from her hands. My eyes widen, and my jaw drops.
As soon as I hear the glass shattered, I snap. I glare at her. I clench my jaw as I spoke to her, "I'm going to ask you again. Get. Out." I clench my fist, and fear replaces the sadistic look she had on. She scoffs and stomps out of the office.
I walk around the table and see the frame flip upside down. I bent down and see the frame flipped back. I turn it over and observe the broken glass. I steady my breath and look at her and her beautiful smile. The air thickens, and I try to breathe in and out. After a moment, I stand up and put the frame in the box. I grab the broom from the closet and sweep up the glass.
