I flinch and yelp quietly as the nail filer burns the tip of my fingers and my skin. Selena chuckles lightly as she adjusts her spot on the ground.

We were sitting in her living room. She was giving me a manicure. I sat on the couch while she sat criss-cross on the floor. We laughed a couple of times on various subjects. From just silly little things to some playful subjects.

"So, have you talked to your sisters?" she asks.

I shake my head. "No. I haven't been able to communicate with them since my phone ran out of data, and that was a long time ago," I answer. "I wish I could have written to them, maybe I would've still be in the lake house."

"Well, I say it was fate that led you here," Selena says. We smile at another before I shift my eyes back down to my nails. She smoothens the edges, and I notice her glances at my chest.

She stops for a moment and stands on her knees. "That is such a pretty necklace," she comments.

I blink a little before I comprehended her statement. I lower my eyes and pick up the red gem in my fingers. I raise it up in between us for the two of us to see.

"Where did you get that? Must have cost a fortune," she says.

I reminisce the time it was place around my neck and smile. "Liam bought it for me," I answer.

Her eyes spark as her jaw drops slightly. She looked amused and astounded. "Oh, I see. Was this a gift?"

"At first," I answer. "I didn't want him to buy it because it was over seven hundred dollars. But he did, and subsequently inform me to keep it for him. And then we had this trip, and I thought I had lost it. But he had it and proposed to me before he left."

"Oh," she stretches. "That's why it's so important to you. It's quite the love story you two have. I can't wait until you two reunite once more. How long has it been now?"

I calculated the days briefly and estimated. "Over a month."

"A month! The new semester is close by," she points out. I nod my head.

"He said that he has to take care of some business before he comes back," I said. She gives me testy eyes, making me nervous. I could tell she had her own opinion and is judging me slightly. I clear my throat and reply, "I trust him."

"Ally, I'm not saying he's lying, but it's pretty darn long, considering he told you he'd come back in a couple of days when it's already been a month. That to me is sketchy," she says. I didn't reply back. I didn't know what to say, and even if I did, I didn't know how to piece the words together.

"I—"

Beep! Beep!

Selena reaches over to the cushion next to me, where the phone laid, and grabs it. She takes a look at the screen and answers it. She pressed the phone against her ear and says, "Hello?"

I listen to the small noise coming from her phone. Selena raises her eyes at me and replied, "Yes, Ally is here." After a minute, she hands me the phone, and I place the phone against my ear.

"Hello?" I answer.

"Hello, Ms. Allyson Hernandez, we would like to inform that you got the role of Yolanda," the lady said.

I cover my mouth as I gasp, surprise.

"We are gathering all the casts together on Friday in the same building. I hope you can make it, and I wish you a good night, Ms. Hernandez," she says before she hanged up.

I set the phone down and stare off to the space in front of me. My fingertips tremble. My mind repeated four words: I got the part. I couldn't really contain my laughter. I feel proud of myself for accomplishing this.
