I remember. I remember what happened before I left. Ally ran out of her house and chased after me, but I saw her through the rear view mirror and asked Sonia to stop. She did, and I got out of the car, giving Ally my farewell. I was going to see her again. That's what I had planned no matter what.
After Louis, Zayn, and I arrive to the UK, things began to get complicated. Rita, my ex, still harbored feelings for me, and I tried to stop her from pursuing anything. But she wouldn't quit. My mom forced me to marry Lennon, who I thought was sweet, but I was not interested. I reminded myself of Ally, and how can I not? Her absence was torturing, especially since she didn't pick up my calls and text messages.
I inherited the business for the respect of my family, but I learned the truth. My mom hid Ally's letters, and Lennon and her were the ones that caused my grandmother's death. I was beyond furious and knew I had to return to the woman that treated me right. Zayn and I were in the car, and the last thing I remember was a car driving into us, and I recognized her face behind the wheels.
However, at this moment, I couldn't picture them clearly. I look around me and see smoke coming out of the engine. I unbuckle my seatbelt and exit the car. I run over to the other side of road. The other car ran into the ditch. A woman sat with her head against the wheels, and as I walk towards her, I notice it was Lennon. Anger immediately washes over me.
I stomp to the side of her door and pull the handle. Lennon flinches and lifts her head up. A smile appears on her face, grateful to see me. There was a small scratch on her forehead and a bruise on her cheek.
"Liam..." she said in relief. "Oh my gosh, I'm so glad you are here."
My brows furrow. "What happened?" I ask.
"I was just driving, and a car happened to cross over to my side," she said.
"That was me," I shake my head. She creases her brows in confusion. I repeat, "What happened?"
"Sweetie, what are you talking about?" she asks.
"You know damn well what I am talking about," I state. "What happened on the day that you drove into me and Zayn?" Her eyes widen with tremendous fear. Her hands shake from the steering wheel, and she reaches one of her hands over to touch me, but I swat it away. "Answer me. What happened? And why did you do it?"
"You remember..." she mumbles to herself.
"Of course, I remember," I said. "Why did you do it?"
Her eyes grew furious. "Because I wanted to stop you from going back to Ally!" she spits out. "I had to do something, and that was the only way. I couldn't let you go back to her. That's why I fed you stories of the your past."
"You're crazy if you thought your lies would catch up to me," I said.
"Yeah, the lies that you'd believed," she snickers. "You believed in every single detailed with much doubt at all. And it was so easy. But I only did it because I wanted you and wanted the best for you."
"You don't know what's best for me," I said. "I was coming home to her—"
"And you thought you can get away with it?" Lennon says. "Will Ally let you get away with all the things that you did to me? Does she even know that you lost your memory? I have done you no harm. I got you away from her, and I'm happy."
"Do you not have any remorse over what you did?" I question.
She shakes her head. "No, why would I? You are mine, like what my parents told me and what your parents told me. It motivated me not to feel sorry for her because you don't belong to her."
"Ally has never harm you," I said. "You shouldn't hurt her because you wanted me. Put your anger on me, not on her."
"I have done her no harm," she replies. "It's only been you. You were the one that led her depress. You know it's been months and months since she finally found you, but what she didn't know was that you weren't the same guy she loved. You didn't remember her at all. Only the stories we told you. You're the one who tortured her by opening her heart and then ripping it from her chest. She's never going to forgive you. You caused her so much pain."
I clench my fist, wanting to throttle her throat so that I couldn't hear her voice. I take in a breath and calmly respond, "And to think...that I loved you for a moment over her. I hate myself from choosing you over her." Her eyes became vulnerable.
I turn around and proceed to walk on the road, but Lennon wraps her arms under mine and cries on my back. "Liam, I'm so sorry... I didn't mean the words that I said. I just wanted you, and to know that you loved me over her makes me care less about her."
I shake my head. I press my hands on hers and remove them. "Lennon, I don't love you. I never have. And I never will."
"Liam," she sobs as she sets her hands off of me. I proceed to walk away as far as I can from her.
Nothing was in my mind at the moment, except how I wish I can see Ally. Right now, she probably hates me, and I don't blame her.
I wasn't far from their house. I can see it a couple yards away. I turn to a corner of the sidewalk and stood in front of a house I had mixed feelings about. It felt like I haven't been here for almost a year, yet it felt like it was a week since I left.
I knock on the door, and the door opens. Sonia peeks her head out, and confusion washes over her as she sees me standing here. "Liam?" she questions.
I smile a little. "Hi, Aunt Sonia. Do you mind if I come in?"
She nods her head. "Yeah, of course," she said. She steps aside, and I enter the house. Once she shuts the door, she offers me a sit at the dining table. I take a seat and wait for her to join me.
"Liam," she begins as she sits across from me. "So how have you been?"
"Not well to be honest," I begin. "Ever since I left, people in my family..." I catch my breath, "I thought I could trust them. They took something from me that I just gained back, but everything is different now."
"How so?" She asks.
"I did something to Ally that made her hate me," I answer. "She doesn't want to see me anymore."
"What did you do?" she asks.
I refuse to go into details because it would be a reminder of that guy that I was earlier today. The guy was so stupid to believe them. "I don't want to say. The reason why I'm here is because I want to know what happened after I left. I would ask Ally and the others, but they shunned me as well."
Sonia nods her head. She straightens her posture and explains, "Okay. Right after you left, Ally and Simon had a fight, and she ended up living at the lake house. I took her to the house and helped her unpack some of her stuff while she asked me stored the boxes in my house. I still have them at the moment. Do you want to see them?"
I shake my head, not feeling it at the moment. "No, I can check them later. What happened afterwards?"
She thinks for a while until she recalls, "I gave her some money to begin with, so it can help her begin her life. And I did want to check up on her once in a while, but I got buried in my work. One day, Camila and the others received a letter from you, and I was on my way to check on her, so I brought it with me, and that was the last time I saw her before school started."
It took me a moment to process the story in my head.
"I heard that she lives with her teacher now, Ms. Gomez. She might give you the answers you are looking for."
There were a lot of questions I was wanting answers to. All revolves around Ally. How was she? What fight was it that caused her to leave? And many more.
"May I borrow your car? I promise I won't wreck it," I said.
"As long as you bring it back to me before ten," she answers.
"Thank you so much," I said. She hands me the keys from her purse, and I take them.
I exit the house and get behind the wheels of her car in the driveway. I let the familiar feeling sink in for a moment before I started the car and drive into the street.
