"Okay, students, I have finalize the cast. It will be posted on the stage shortly," Ms. Gomez says.
Camila and I exchange looks. We hold each other's hands, nervous. It turns out Camila and I were competing each other for the same role. So was Jade, but I honestly want Camila to take it. She has the skills to play Elizabeth Bennett.
"I wish you the best," I tell her.
"I wish you the best as well," Camila said, biting her other nails. "I can't handle the pressure. If one of us don't get it, I hope the other person gets to be Jane."
"Camila, you're going to be Elizabeth," I said. "I'm probably going to be your understudy."
She shakes her head and her nerves. "We'll just wait and see," she tightens our grip.
"You may look," Ms. Gomez announced.
Camila and I ran down the stairs and squeeze ourselves through the crowd of students. Geez, it was like paparazzis or fans trying to get to their celebrity. Camila and I pardon our ways, but it was no use. The crowd hovered too much, so I pull Camila and me to the side before we got smush in it.
After a few moments, when the crowd vanished to a small gathering, Camila and I walk up to the paper and scroll for our names. In seconds, I found my name and the role I was to play. As I read the name clearly, I feel my heart pounding, astounded. I squint my eyes, making sure I was reading the name correctly by my name.
I turn to Camila, who held a smile on her face. She squeezed my hand, jumping up and down. "I got it! I got it!" she exclaims. I smile at her cuteness. "I got Elizabeth. I got Elizabeth!" She hits realization of who she was going to play.
"You'll be great at it," I assure her.
Camila smiles. "Thank you. What about you?"
"I got Jane," I state, causing her to grin.
"Awesome," Camila commented. "See, with a few prays, we both got the leads."
"Pray?" I question.
"Yeah," Camila said. "I prayed for the both of us to have the lead roles."
I nod my head until an idea popped up. "Let's see who plays Mr. Darcy," I suggested.
Camila sighs. "I just hope it's not Zayn."
I immediately scroll the names to find Zayn. Once I did, I look at the name next to it: William Darcy. "Well, you might want to check Zayn's."
"What?" she questions, darting her eyes to the paper. She slaps her forehead after seeing the fine print of his name next to Mr. Darcy. "Just my luck." A chuckle escapes from my lips. She cocks an eyebrow and points to the paper. "Oh, yeah, Ms. Giggles, let's see who plays Charles Bingley," she states. "More specifically, check Liam's."
My heart races as she snickers. I trace my hand on the paper until I see Liam's name on top of my finger. I slide to the side and read the name: Charles Bingley. "What?"
"Looks like we're even," she says.
"No, no. What if Simon sees us on the stage?" I question. Every time I was seen with Liam, I always felt punish. I'm not saying that it's his fault because it's not. One hundred percent, it's not. It's mine. And Simon's expectations on me. It's like he forbids me to date. Only me. Because Normani and Niall have been doing well since he allowed those two to. Mani and Niall seem to be in love. Always teasing one another and playing with food. They are a match made in heaven.
"Ally, relax," Camila assures. "We're just acting. He'll understand. Plus, there's really no intercourse in this play, if you know what I mean. Maybe just the dancing." I nodded my head, hoping she was correct. It's been a while since I've read the book.
