Audrey's POV

Its been about two and a half weeks since I went to the doctors to get crutches, and I've been moving around more than I should since then. I want to go back to school but Leah keeps suggesting that I stay home and rest, but if I keep spending days away from school, How am I gonna graduate? I'm already behind on a lot of stuff and each day continues to add up. I know her stubborn mind isn't gonna change so I decided to give it a shot and ask Tyler. Surprisingly, he was on my side with this one and he told he was gonna charm his convincing ways into that brain of hers and get her to let me go back.

"You guys hungry?" Leah came downstairs and asked Me and Lexi as we stopped laughing after watch a funny video. We've gotten closer or the last few days and the connection is getting stronger and stronger by the minute.
"Actually yeah, I skipped breakfast this morning." Lexi said as she got up and stretched her arms.

"Alright, get dressed. We're going out to eat for lunch, and Audrey?" She called my name as I grabbed my crutches so I could stand.
"Yeah?" I looked at her as Lexi grabbed her phone and headed upstairs to get dressed.
"I figured you were gonna go to Tyler about going back to school, and at first I wasn't down with this idea because of your condition but you're right. You need to graduate and make it to college so that you can get the hell away from here." She whispered so that Lexi couldn't hear. "Lexi only knows half of what's going on. I don't need her worrying about anything so I chose to not fill her in on the bad parts of this fucked up situation." She added.

I nodded with a small smile of the idea of returning to school. Thankfully, Mia isn't gonna be there to get in my way so that's why I'm not to down on this. Going back to school is a must and if I don't, who knows what'll happen next? Life it'll just be even more difficult than it already is now and there's no time for that so.......Oakwood Academy? Prepare yourselves, because Audrey Jae Washin—I mean Audrey Jae......Brooks......is coming back......

"So...what restaurant are we going to?" I asked as I clicked the power button on my phone before glancing out of the window. This afternoon was quite a traffic day. Usually it wouldn't be as many cars on this particular street but today it's backed up.
"It's a place in downtown. Not gonna tell you the name so you'll see when we get there."

I nodded, looking out the window as the radio came on to a song I knew.

"I wonder why everyone decided to take this freaking street today...." I heard Leah mumbled under her breath as we stopped once again behind another car.
"Maybe...there's construction happening and it's blocked off or something." Lexi suggested in the back as I agreed.

"Yeah, construction my ass. All they're gonna do is start on whatever needs to be fixed over there for a few days and then stop, leaving all that mess for who knows how long." She scoffed, making Lexi and I chuckle as we turned down an unfamiliar street.

Longing minutes later, we pulled up to a real I've never seen before. It seemed fancy on the outside. The grass was already growing green even though the spring hasn't hit yet, flowers were decorated across the front. The glass on the windows were fresh and clean. Everything about this place already breathed relaxing.
"This looks like a nice place to come chill and get things off your mind." Lexi said as we all got out the car. Of course I was the last one out because of my current condition. I desperately want this cast off my leg. It was a pain in the corner of my ass and I can't keep walking around on one leg like a lost puppy.

"Yeah, it definitely does. I just found this place one day while I was driving." Leah told us as she opened the door and stepped aside for me to get through.

"Hi, I'm Naomi. Welcome to Pinewood Home." A woman at the register spoke to Leah as I looked around at a bunch of people that kept staring at me. Boo, what the fuck y'all looking at? Never seen a crippled person before?!
"Just us three." I turned my head back to the woman and Leah as the woman signaled us to follow her to a table. As we walked to the table, more stares were being present and to avoid them the best, I just kept my head down and made sure I didn't make eye contact with anyone. Obviously they can't seem to eat their soon to be cold food and mind their own damn business so I guess this is the only option.
"And here you guys are." She said as we all sat down at one of the booths. Lexi sat next to Leah while I sat on the opposite of them, due to my leg.
"What drink can I start you guys off with?" A waitress came to our table as I took my jacket off. It was warm in here so there was no need for extra layers at the moment.

"I'll take a pink lemonade please." Leah went first as I scanned the menu for a drink I can actually pronounce.
"I'll take a Pepsi." Lexi read my mind as I looked up at her and shook my head.
"And you?" The waitress looked at me after writing down what Lexi said.
"I'll take a Pepsi too." I told her and she wrote it down before disappearing.

Once she left I looked up at Leah and we stared at each other for a good minute before she suddenly dug into her pocket.
"Alright, I'm gonna go to the bathroom, be right back." She quickly said as she got up with her phone. When she about to exit the booth, suddenly a group of boys passed by and one of them intentionally bumped into her, making her and her phone almost take a trip to the floor.
"Excuse you?!" She immediately began to snap in disbelief. Some eyes began to look in our direction as I looked at Lexi who didn't understand what was going on because she had her eyes glued to her own phone.

The boy that bumped looked at her as I assume his friends stopped and laughed along with him. "Sorry, didn't see you there......maybe next time stay your ass out of my way and we won't have a problem then." He snickered and began shaking his head before turning to leave.
I rose my eyebrow as thoughts began roaming my mind. Should I risk beating the shit out of him and in result of us all getting kicked out of this restaurant and also fuck up my leg even more, or I can just let them be and wait for karma to get them back?

Before I ended up making a decision, Lexi got up a split second later with a clear hint that she was about to something. I didn't stop her and neither did Leah as we watched Lexi speed walk over to the boy that bumped Leah and grabbed him by the shirt before they all disappeared. After she grabbed his shirt, she held grip as she dragged him backwards to the floor, earning a gasp by a few people that watched.
"Look you irrelevant asshole, I don't know who you are or where you came from but I suggest you re-adjust that brain of yours before I do. Disrespect my mother like that or anyone else again, and I swear you'll regret it!" She shouted sharply in his face.

The boy quickly nodded as she let go of his shirt and he got up and took off with his friends, leaving everyone's eyes on Lexi.

After they left, there was a moment of silence as I turned to Leah and smirked widely.
She looked at me and shook her head as everyone began clapping and cheering Lexi as she stood there confused as she could ever be before walking back to us.
"Congrats, Lexi. You passed the test." I shook her shoulder as she squinted her eyebrows.

"T-test? What test?" She asked as the boys that were apart of the test came out with smiles on their faces and clapped along with everyone else.

"The test was to see what you would do if something like that happened for real.." Leah explained to her as I nodded.
"It was my idea and your mother thought that you would've just stayed seated and not doing anything but I kept trying to tell her that you were gonna do the complete opposite so........hand that twenty bucks over, old lady." I motioned my hand to her while smiling, remembering back to the first day we met and I called her that..

She rolled her eyes playfully and went into her purse and handed the twenty dollars to me.
"You guys are unbelievable." Lexi laughed and shook her head as the boys high fived her and waved us goodbye to go sit down at their own table.

"Yeah, we might be unbelievable but we now know that......" I paused and looked at Leah.

"She's ready." We both said at the exact time before laughing.
