"Can you pass me the sugar please?" I heard Lexi ask me as I stared down at my plate as I ate the oatmeal I made us..
Leah was still in the kitchen fixing her some coffee. The three of us have been sort of quiet to ourselves ever since....yesterday happened. I guess we're still processing that Ava's officially dead. The girl I beat up in class and the girl who tried to blackmail me to keep my mouth shut by using my old abortion papers.......no, I don't think she deserved to die but, she was about to end my life if Leah didn't shoot her in the head in time.
So, it's no ones fault. Leah defended me, and I very much appreciate that.........but why do I feel so guilty?"Sure." I replied, letting go of my spoon as I grabbed the jar of sugar next to me and slid it across the dining table so it could reach her arm length.
"Thank you." She said, grabbing the jar and opening it up to sprinkle it on her oatmeal.I believe that none of us really got any sleep.
I mean, I know I didn't. That scene keeps replaying over and over and over in my mind and I can't seem to throw it in the back of my freaking head somewhere. I've never witnessed anything like that before but I should be sort of used to this crap. I got shot in the leg before, stabbed, abused a few times before.......and also when I was little I—I suddenly jumped back in my seat, touching the back of my head in slight pain.
"What's wrong?" Lexi questioned me in concern as she stopped eating.I looked at her and then slightly shook my head in confusion. What the fuck just happened??
Rubbing the back of my head, I didn't feel anything which made things even weirder. Soon Leah came in a few seconds later with her mug of coffee, looking at me the same way Lexi was doing.
"You okay?" She rose an eyebrow as she slowly sat the mug down."I don't know......o-out of nowhere I just felt a really sharp pain in the back of my head.." I explained to her, she then came behind me to touch where I was feeling at.
"Tell me when you feel it again..." She instructed as she began slightly gliding her finger across my scalp under my hair.
She kept doing that for a good thirty seconds but gave up when I didn't feel anything."You sure you felt something?" She asked me, as we both sat down and I continued to eat my oatmeal.
"No, I just wanted you feel my gigantic head for no absolute reason." I sarcastically smiled at her as she flipped me off.Lexi snorted and shook her head as she looked at Leah.
"Well, if it happens again. Let me know so I can get a better look at it." She said and then took a small sip of her coffee.
"Okay..." I mumbled, still trying to figure out why I suddenly out of no where felt a very sharp pain in the back of my head.......was something in there?I shook my head and deeply sighed, letting it go for now as I looked at my bowl of half eaten oatmeal.
The silence kicked in quickly except for the silverware hitting the glass plates. Once the two of them noticed my quick stares they both looked at me and then Lexi looked at Leah...
She cleared her throat, "Look, I know....what you're thinking right now....but........I had to do what I had to do........i-if I didn't shoot her she would've shot you and then—""Mom," Lexi let go of her spoon to touch Leah's hand..
"We know why you did it, and I appreciate that you done it to save my life. It could've ended last night but thanks to you, it didn't.......this wasn't your fault. She brought this to herself and it costed her life. Don't beat yourself down on this, we gotta move on from it and pretend it didn't happen......right?"
She looked at me and then back at Lexi before slowly nodding her head. "Yeah, you're absolutely right........it's just......I've never really done that before so it's kinda hard for me to forget about what happened.......but, I know I shouldn't feel any type of remorse if we're gonna make it through this.....so," She made eye contact with me.
"Like you said, we should move on from this and pretend it never happened. I'm sure once you get to school this topic is gonna be the main news if no one has found her already, which most likely they have, act normal no matter what. No one can know about this, got it?" She glared at the both of us with a serious matter."I had Ace hack into her phone after we left and delete that photo out of her phone so there wouldn't be any connections whatsoever so we should be good......" She said, making me look at Lexi.
We both nodded in unison. I looked at the clock and then got up to receive my crutches leaning against the wall.
"Time for me to go." I mumbled as I swung my backpack over my shoulder and shoved my phone into my pocket. The screen was slightly cracked but thank god that's all it was...
"I'm gonna take the bus this time so you don't have to drive me." I told Leah as she got ready to get up."You sure?" She asked as I drank the rest of my water in the cup before sitting it back down.
"Yeah, I'm sure. My leg is getting better so I can move faster than usual." I reassured her as I went towards the front door. I made sure my key to the house was attached to my backpack and then opened the door.
"See you guys later..." I said, they both replied back and I shortly closed the door behind me and made my way towards the bus stop down the street.
